The HK one that I linked will take 12 Volts. It does not use the Rx battery. It just plugs into a channel. The device switched is Opto isolated.

I expect it would easily endure more than 12 volts @ the ma range you are using, but yeah it is 12 beans, but negligible weight.

Cheap even cheaper than the H.K. switch.

Easy to hook up and set up. Plug the LEDs into where the motor goes, the other end the battery a 3s LiPo, and the other into the Rx. That's it and only $5.00. I bet a lot of electric guys have these brushed ESCs kicking around their parts drawers after switching to brushless motors.

The LEDs need 12V so the RC Lander thing is a problem. I would not want and can't supply the LEDs from the Rx battery. Unless I am missing something this device uses the Rx battery to the switched device.

Description:

- Input Voltage: 4.8v - 7.4v

- Output Voltage: 4.8v - 7.4v , 2A

- Size: 30mm (L) x 13mm (W) x 3mm (H)

- Weight: 7g

Just my thoughts.....
Ah sorry. I see now that you are using the 12V corn lights. That being the case the hobbyking switch Max listed is the easiest solution as it allows any voltage device to be driven from the receiver.

So many solutions to this switch problem. Take your pick!!

Re: LED Landing Lights

At the bottom of my post above I also mention a hobby king switch that I have and use, i guess you guys missed it.

at $6.63 its a pretty good deal, and is cheaper than buying a servo and micro switch if you dont already have them sitting in your junk drawer.

That's a better deal than the ones I got:

No need for 6A for LED's.

Will have to keep that site in mind for future especially since HK dropped PayPal.

Re: LED Landing Lights

In the old days (and still good today) we used a servo to flip a switch or microswitch. A small micro servo would work just as good today.

Take a regular toggle switch and mount it on the servo. Use a round servo wheel, then notch it so that when the servo goes one way, it trips the toggle on, and when it goes the other way, it trips the toggle off. Roller activated microswitch is the easiest switch to mate to a servo.

Here is a picture of a servo tripping a microswitch. This one shows two but you only need one in most applications. The same can be done with a toggle switch, only the position of the notch will be different so that it trips the toggle correctly.

Of course, you can always use the HK remote switch. I have a couple of these and they work fine. The only watch-out is it wont work unless you join the switch ground to the RX ground

Re: LED Landing Lights

The current at full power is 22ma. So my 2000mah LiPo should last forever....

Using a ESC might be a bit of an over kill. Anyone have a cheaper way to turn these things on and off?

I left the LEDs powered up for five minutes and measured the temp with my laser temp meter. Ambient was 62F the LED measured only 65F. So temp is not a problem at all.

Hope this info helps.

I am currently putting two in the leading edges of my Howard DGA. They are 1/2 inch in diameter.

If you look at the store web site there are many different styles and types.

Re: LED Landing Lights

Good to turn on and off and only $5.00. Disconnect the positive lead from/to the Rx!
