Or try this http://www.greathobbies.com/products/e/efl/eflh1500.jpg

I have one and it has normal rate controls and dual rate controls. In normal rate the controls are slushy to allow you to fly safely without over controling. In dual rate you can do some serious flying. It is awesome to fly. If you need to see it fly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrTjsTAj03U.

Nope, I'm simply telling you of the situation that exists when ordering from Chinese sources that I discovered by accident when ordering things for myself. As I own a business, I had to make a voluntary entry to customs to pay the GST on the box of helicopters, after they arrived. If you want to "try" and smuggle something, because that's what its called when you don't pay duties and taxes, that's entirely up to you.

Even a box of 12 helicopters showed up at the door with no money owing. You can do it yourself by going to alibaba.com and setting up an account. it doesn't cost anything, but I can order things for you as I have a business that imports. Send me a private message and I can advise you on this.

So do I understand that you are a CBSA, and are publicly advising people how to process false declarations?

I can relate to the "A" type personality for me I like to do and figure things on my own. Check out my Four blade flybarred 600 head. If I listened to others I would have been discouraged in trying it. Don't get me wrong advice on this website is gold and is very useful but you do need to be crystal clear on what you are asking. Having said that I will also add this is my favourite website and will remain that way.

Lamadude,

Excellent.
Thank you for the intel.

Always good to know a CBSA licensed broker.
Even though you order direct from China do you end up being charged Customs Charges on top?

So, if I wanted to order something from Aliexpress can I do it myself or would it be better to go through you and have you place the order etc...?

Re: Double Horse 9104

I can give you some intel on DH helis shortly. I am waiting on a DH9100 to arrive within the next few days. Just for information purposes, you can get parts for DH helicopters and other well known Chinese brands fairly easily, but to ensure you don't get ripped off or have problems, it is advisable to order anything you buy from China through Aliexpress.com. Aliexpress shipments use an escrow service and the seller doesn't get paid until you receive the shipment and are satisfied with it. I have used this many times and had no problems. Fyi, I'm a CBSA licensed Customs broker and import consultant. Know what I'm doing in this area. Buying from places like Xheli.com or helipal.com is a risk, because their after sales services doesn't exist and the freight charges are ridiculous from those places.
I almost forgot, I only paid $62.00 bucks for the DH9100, landed cost from China, through a store I use on Aliexpress regularly. Thats about 1/3rd cheaper than buying it from an online store that ships them from Vancouver.

Re: Double Horse 9104

Hey no trouble.. Look forward to meeting you.

It just occurred to me - I forgot all about the mCPx!

This is a tiny collective pitch helicopter that'd be a great first heli. It's the only collective pitch helicopter I know of that can take a crash and keep flying without any fixing. It handles the wind really well for the size of it too. Keep this guy in mind, it's sorta the best of both worlds if a little small, but that's what makes it so robust:

Re: Double Horse 9104

RM,

Thank you for your advice and recommendations.
I like the look and the price point of the Blade, BLH 1600.

I am an independant "A" type personality who has to learn on my own, sometimes too "A" type for my own good and sometimes the hard way.

I'll definately check out the SIM at the LHS before I commit to the "Flying Lawnmower.

Having said that, I may take up the 3D flying to help with inverted grass cutting on the 2.5 acres, (just kidding).

Thanks again and I will try to get out to the field one of these weekends for a chat and see.

Not what I was thinking at all. 4 years ago, I bought an airhog at toys 'r' us. 4 years later I have two 50 sized CP helis, a 450, and have flown/sold many others. Very few people start with a big expensive CP heli right off the get-go. It's the little toy ones like you're looking at that get the needle in the vein

So, you're looking to fly outdoors on the cheap...

As I said, the only helicopters that will really fly well outdoors are the fully aerobatic CP helicopters. That said, just because they're aerobatic doesn't mean you have to fly them that way. But they are still harder to fly and take a lot more damage than a fixed pitch helicopter when they crash.

If you're just looking to dip your toes in the water I'd suggest this guy to start:

http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...rod_id=BLH3100

It is a fixed pitch helicopter, so you'll really only be able to fly it in low wind conditions. But it will put up with some level of abuse before you have to buy parts and crack out the screwdrivers, and it will get you a feel for how the bigger ones fly to some extent. When you do break parts, it'll most likely take 20 minutes and < $20 of parts to get up and working again. If you cut the throttle before you hit though, most often you can probably just pick it up and fly it again.

Another good option is this:

http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...rod_id=BLH1600

That comes with a good computer radio. They are a lot more sensitive to fly, and will break multiple parts EVERY time you crash as the blades spin much faster than an FP helicopter. If you hit yourself or someone/something with them they will do some damage. I mean hospital trips. They do handle the wind really well though once you've got the hang of them. For those reasons I'd suggest that if you go this route, then get a simulator to practice on BEFORE flying.

I know I'm harping on the simulator a lot, but it really is a good idea if you're going to learn by yourself. Particularly if you're going for a 3000rpm flying/lawnmowing death machine (ie: Blade 450/Trex 450, etc).

fwiw Great Hobbies in Ottawa has a simulator set up on display that you can mess around with to see what you're into and determine your aptitude for helis before you buy anything. Might not be a bad idea to try your hand at that before spending any money at all.

And yeah, we meet up at the club just about every weekend weather permitting. I'm not there every day, but somebody invariably is. And there's enough heli guys there besides myself (who would all be more than happy to help and offer advice - really great bunch of guys there) that you're almost guaranteed to find at least one heli guy there any given sunny weekend day. Or if you wanna meet, again drop me a PM and we'll arrange something. I get out there as much as humanly possible
