Re: Edo Floats

all the "N" struts are regular "thin wall" streamline tubing but the attach points are made from aluminum, 1/4" that has been shaped to fit inside the tubing about 3/4" at each end, I found that the structure was pretty sturdy when all assembled, and then the "X" brace cables and turnbuckles really made the rigging strong! I had 2-56 size pull-pill cable for the cross bracing originally but after pounding pretty good in some big waves (windy day!) there was a bit of stress and one cable snapped, so I re-rigged it with 4-40 cable hdwr.

The spreader bars were streamline tube with a piece of 1/8X1/2 aluminum ran through the center (from Canadian Tire) for the extra strength....I wouldn't try to fly without that, the spreader bars needed the extra beef but the "N" struts haven't given me ant problems.

think the secret is the rigging cables....just like the full scale

Re: Edo Floats

Thanks. I looked it up. It's not cheap but it's what I need to get the 1/4 Cub on floats. I have the floats already. Just need to sit down and calculate how much I need to buy.
Thanks for the line on the tubing.

Re: Edo Floats

you can get the heavy wall streamline tubing from Keleo.

Re: Edo Floats

Very nice job on the floats. The Kadet Sr makes an amazing float plane. You did a nice job of the bash.
I have a question about the airfoil tubing you used on the landing gear. The tubing at the LHS is very thin and doesn't hold up as a float gear. Did you beef up that type of tubing or do you have a source for heavier tubing?
Sea Commander used to sell an airfoil with a much thicker wall that worked really well. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business.

Re: Edo Floats

Sounds good; I usually go with the wing 2 positive to the top of the floats. Just asking as your last pics did look much more but just the angle of the shots I guess.

Re: Edo Floats

Usually it's 2 to 3 degrees negative on the floats compared to the wing. Or the other way around if you set up the floats tops at zero the wing needs 2 to 3 degrees positive incidence. That's what has been working for me.

Re: Edo Floats

Looks real good... Have a question..... How much positive incidence from the wing bottom to the float tops ?

Re: Edo Floats

wow summer finnaly got here and it's flying past...(no pun intended)...

The Bonny Bay Float Fly is coming up Aug 10th so I better get my a$$ back in gear and get working on the floats again...

the right float is all glassed, and a coat of primer on it showed where the low spots were, and are filled with bondo.

The left float is glassed and still needs a little work befor priming.

The Pullys are all built thanks to Robert, a fellow modeler down the road who is handy with a lathe!
