Re: Century AS350 Military I am using the 600 Rotor Tech semi-symmetrical blades and never ended up using the 570mm Rotor Tech symmetrical blades. I should sell them as I have a set of 600mm semi's in reserve that can work for both my 600 helicopters. They are still here, lol. By the time I ended up changing the gearing and motor, the battery usage dropped way down, and I never saw the need to change to get any more efficiency. I can fly for nearly 12 minutes and my normal limit is 7 so I have a very large cushion at the end of every flight. My timer is set for 6 minutes and if I feel inclined, I reset after spool-up so that I have an actual 6 minutes in the air. Most times, I end up not bothering to reset. Hope this helps. Don |

Re: Century AS350 Military Thanks Jim. I have flown this one at every event I have attended (aside from float fly-ins) and it still ranks up there as one impressive looking helicopter in the air. I have couple of pictures from Helicopter Scale Masters that were taken by a good photographer and by my wife. I do need to get more in-flight shots of all my helicopters as most done by my wife are a bit fuzzy. She has not got the focusing part down yet (auto-focus with the partial pressing of the button) but one day, she will get it. Don |

Re: Century AS350 Military Glad to see you checking your posts Don, I always enjoy your work and your way of describing the projects you are doing. I may have left helicopters and gone to multi rotor due to the time and expense difference but I still love RC helicopters and your builds are always top drawer thanks for all your posts. |

Re: Century AS350 Military This morning I did the final assembly of the chassis back into the body. The motor installation was very easy, no changes to the wiring was needed, and the motor was identical in external dimensions to the previous Align motor. The top of the new Scorpion motor is just sitting below the top of the canopy but this one can take advantage of the air that flows into the body from the air intake at the front of the doghouse. The ESC is set to hold the motor at 1275, 1350, and 1425 rpm, all of which are lower than the 1500 I used to run it at with the Align system in there before. I have also set the ESC to allow the fast restart out of an autorotation which none of my helicopters had been set up to do before. It's murder to have a 15 second spool up and only 10 seconds of air. The change should also lower the motor and ESC temperatures a lot and will place the operating rpm of the motor in a very strong range. Previously it was set in the 74 to 77% range, which according to most, is too low for maximum torque. My lowest level is now 84% and top is 93%, a far cry from before. The long range forecast has warm air moving in by Friday (a bit of rain) and by the weekend, the temps will finally be in double digits, YAH. I am also changing the tail blades to Fun-Key made Revolution blades for the thicker airfoil lifting section that I will most likely need at these lower rpm levels. Take care. Don |

Re: Century AS350 Military Thanks guys. James: That is a sharp looking body kit, no doubt, but if you want a top kit, go for the Fun-Key line. They have a few really sharp body paint schemes available and the hardware kit is second to none. You can always get the "white" unpainted kit for less money and do it up the way you want it, but the bones of the kit are what really counts, not the paint job. I am maxed out for space but if I was to buy another kit to build into a new helicopter (I am rebuilding two right now), it would be a Fun-Key kit. Take care. Don |
