Check out a local source [BC] for floats and hardware.

Re: DIY Water Rudder - How?

after having fiddled with a home made for a bit, I kind of have to agree but I'm committed now and I do things to learn.

The next step, what's a good "water exclusion" grease. I tried some dielectric grease from work and it's way too heavy.

Considering the time it takes to fiddle around making a decent rudder, I'd also recommend the Ernst rudder. It's available in two sizes, comes complete with everything you need and works great. Just be careful not to break off the ends of the horn that your steering cables attach to if you use one.

If you could still get it, the old Byron Originals was also a great rudder and it didn't have the plastic parts issue of the Ernst version.

Another good choice for an all metal rudder is that included in the Balsa USA kits for their scale EDO floats. I believe they still sell them separately.

I have also used both the goldberg design rudder and the Earnst water rudder . I prefer the Earnst as its lighter and works a bit better.

Re: DIY Water Rudder - How?

My Goldberg Superfloats use their nose gear mounting hardware and then solders a brass strap around the rod as a mounting flange for the rudder. The steering arm is set up just like it would be bolted to the firewall or you can move it to the top of the mount so that the arm is above the float top. I have it mounted inside the normal slot with a control run through the aft bulkhead to a servo buried inside the float.

Here is the link to the manual. The instructions for the rudder assy begin at the bottom of page 21:

Sorry, don't have the capability to post the pics myself.

DIY Water Rudder - How?

Building a set of floats for my Senior and I had read somewhere that people make use of nose gear parts. Anyone ever do this? Wouldn't mind seeing a few pic's of how people have done their DIY water rudders.
