Re: Sig e-Kobra So I had a great summer of flying this plane! With all of the IMAC activities I only managed to get 15 or so flights. It flys great. Very fast and very precise. I've got some other projects for this winter so it's time to move it along to someone else! Check out the ad in the classifieds |

Re: Sig e-Kobra We'll, I finally got out with the E-Kobra! All I can say is wow! What a rocket! Put in three flight in less than ideal conditions (thunder rumbling nearby) and 2 clicks of right aileron had it dialed in! A small plane that gets even smaller in a big hurry. The electric setup that I cobbled together worked great and I'm getting 6 minutes of pretty energetic flight on 3300 mAh 4 cell Lipo. In calm conditions I could fly most of the time at half throttle and probably get 8 or 9 minutes out of the pack. Sorry no video but I promise to get some soon. Balanced as per the plans and it was grooving like a little F3A pattern plane! (Old school ballistic pattern style!). |

Re: Sig e-Kobra I had many Cobras and Kougars and by far this was my favorite one (from a time much before electric flight was in). Total devastation when one motor failed during take off, resulted in a very low unrecoverable knife edge flight around the field until finally it cartwheeled to pieces, lol. It wasn't funny then that's for sure. That would be very rare if it was electric powered! |

Re: Sig e-Kobra Sounds about right... I remember when I built a Kobra using my old OS32 Heli engine with tuned exhaust. A few clicks of up trim and that was it... and it was a little rocket that would climb straight up forever. |

Re: Sig e-Kobra Hey Gordon, I finally got the e-Kougar out for a maiden this afternoon! WOW!, I forgot how exhilarating building and flying your own plane can be! This thing tracks like its on rails and only needed 3-4 clicks of up elevator to fly great. That being said, I was lucky to keep her as I felt her under 'aileroned'! Turns out one of the connecting rods came off of the servo arm! (Builder's error) Once she is dialed in it will be a fun bird. Cant wait to see a maiden vid of your e-Kobra if ya can! Cheers Scott https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0BA...ature=youtu.be |

Building is so much fun! I am super glad that a friend got me back into the hobby! The scheme is a take-off of the T-45C Goshawk Centennial scheme. I really liked the contrasting colors Love following your work! Keep it up! S |

Re: Sig e-Kobra Yup, our planes will not takeoff and land like the floaty 3D Extras and Edges we have all become accustomed too! They are going to need airspeed! |

Re: Sig e-Kobra The slimer version is supposed to be 5 to 5 and a quarter lbs, so basically right on the plan, even with electric. I had no idea if it was going to be heavier or lighter being electric, but I was tending to think heavier. So, bonus! it just feels like a heavy plane for the span tho.......just not used to it I guess GoPro at the ready! |

Re: Sig e-Kobra Hi Scott, your Kougar looks great! At first I almost fell off my chair when I read that yours came in at 5 lbs 4 ounces!!! Then I remembered that you were building the bigger brother to my bird!! What is the recommended weight for the Kougar? BTW isn't building your own plane great! You will have a plane at the field that nobody else will have! I like the pseudo Canadian military colour scheme you did. Make sure you post some video here (I will too as soon as this extreme winter ends!!) |

Here is the set up that I decided to do on my e-Kougar. I did the same style of hatch that you did (may still need some more hold down mods tho), and have some (covered) cooling hole options in the bottom of fuse under ESC. I still have to make some cooling holes in the cowl yet (damn, I keep thinking that I am done...!), and am considering a touch of baffling or something, I am getting paranoid of heating that motor/ESC too much.....(looking at a 12x6 prop) And I am having a whole bunch of fun with the new vinyl cutter I picked up! More stickers to come! This one came in at 5 lbs 4 ounces I think it was. Definitely not a 3D monster! But got me back into building and it was so much fun and a ton of (re-)learning along the way As soon as the snow goes north I will get this thing up and see how it she goes! (but she still isn't flying, and I am definitely open to outside comments/suggestions...!) I think I speak for most when I say that this has been a long, cold, shovel full of a winter!! |
