Re: XRP 70 mm 14 bladed EDF unit

Got the proper replacement screws from the hobby shop, Dubro item #2290, 3.0 X 16mm countersunk machine screw (hex head), 4 to a pack which is what I needed as I got three of these EDF units.

The head is kinda big, just like the original and doesn't blend with the spinner. So, mounted it in my hand drill and with it spinning, ground it to shape on my 1" grinding belt machine. Works great as it grinds it nicely uniformly. No balance issues.

Attached the spinner and spun the EDF up, no vibration at all. Happyness 😎

Just tested the setup using a Thunder Power 4500 battery, wow, 89 amps produced 1250 watts of power.

With 2600kv I would have expected higher numbers on 5s. Perhaps the batteries are tired?
Your numbers would be what I expect from a 2100-2200kv twin setup.

No, the five cell setup I did with the Change Sun 12 blade EDF with the 2600 Kv motors. They will give me just over 2000 watts as a twin and the amps are more reasonable. Using the Thunder Power 4500 set up as a five cell, one three and one two cell.

Will this be the power setup in your SU47?
That is a nice watt meter number but the amps would scare me in a twin setup. A lot of stress for the battery.

Re: XRP 70 mm 14 bladed EDF unit

The impeller balanced perfectly, no vibration at all.

Here's the info,

EDF ------ XRP 70 mm 14 blade impeller
Motor ---- Dr Mad Thrust 3000 Kv motor max amp 95
ESC ------ Turnigy Dlux 100 amp 2 - 6 S
Battery --- Turnigy 3300 4 cell 30-40C
Receiver -- Spectrum

Full throttle --- 85 amps 1067 watts then settled down to 75 amps 950 watts

Run time approx. 15 -20 seconds at full power.

Temperatures. Motor 105 to 115 F , depending on which section of the Motor being checked. The ESC was only 94 F and the battery was 107 F

I'm pretty sure if a higher rated and newer battery is used, it would not have a high temperature and there would be a higher power seen.

Re: XRP 70 mm 14 bladed EDF unit

After mounting in the test stand, the whole assembly is very rigid, appears quite strong. No play in the motor at all. But, the supplied spinner screw is way to short. It just engages the front of the adaptor. It's a 3 mm x 3/8" long screw, will need a 1/2" long screw, off to the hobby shop I guess.

What's really nice, is they drilled a hole through the adaptor in front of the threads so you can slp a wire or Allen key through, so when you tighten the nut you have something to hold onto to prevent the adaptor from turning as well. You can really tighten the assemble up without any trouble now.

I'll test it without the spinner though.

Motor mounted in the shroud.

Re: XRP 70 mm 14 bladed EDF unit

I'm hoping it'll sound really nice.
Here I wrapped the strip of aluminum duct tape around the motor to fill the gap between the motor housing and the shroud. Nice and snug. Also, they did not open up the face of the mounting section so you have to make the cooling vent holes to match your motor. The plastic is quite thick so it's pretty strong compared to othe fans I've used.

Jeez. Looks awesome.

I'll bet with that many blades, that puppy will almost sound like a kero turbine!!
