Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

I fly mine with an E-Flite power 52 and 5s 5000 35C packs, unlimited vertical. Great flying plane.

Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

If that's the new Hanger 9 Katana 50, then it's the same one that "ADAPTABL" has. I've seen this one fly with the "electric" set-up as described at our field. It's a great looking and flying plane for it's size in the electric powered set-up. The wind didn't seem to bother it much either. The wing on this one is a thinner profile than the Funtana 50 (spinoff of the Funtana 46) and doesn't have the nasty surpises when power is lost ------ had a Funtana 46 with a Saito 91 (about 24 flights) and it "fell like a rock" when it lost power.

I'm all nitro with my planes, but this plane was impressive in electric (not sure about 3D). If I had one, I'd probably use an OS 55 or Saito 91 to keep the engine weight down ------ not into 3D stuff, but try to do aerobatics.

Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

I used a Turnigy 5055-600KV motor, 14x7 prop, 80 amp speed controller and 5s5000MAH NanoTech LIPO. Great performance 7-9 minute flights and the CC was perfect with no lead.

The nice thing is I fly with no cleanup.

You would be better of setting up the plane with the rudder servo in the stock (centre) location.
Move the servo only if there is a need for it later. Keep in mind that battery location on the plane of this size will play a big role.

Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

hey guys i am also building the katanna 50 with the saito 100. I was just wondering if its a good idea to change the rudder set up from pull pull to a servo in the aft of the fues. Due to a heavier engine up front? Any opinions would be helpfull!!!

Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

Yup... OS55 would do it all, and a Saito 100 is an excellent choice for sure. So far, nitro seems to be in favour. The theme is go big or go home!

Frank Saito 82 will not have enough fun factor.
You are welcome to try my OS 55
for free and then do yourself a favour by picking up Saito1.00

Re: Katanna 50 hanger 9

I have a Funtana x50 with an OS91fs, and it works very well. Lots of guys put Saito 82s in them. They are very similar planes, so you would do well with either engine. You can use electric also, but you will miss all the great nitro smell!
