Re: MAAC Website, and Events

No worries Mike, just trying to focus on the main issue at hand, thought the new website would make our lives easier, not more complicated. The whole DND Club bit, and dealing with Formation Halifax, BComd Halifax, 12 Wing, Real Property Mgt (Directorate in Ottawa that controls Federal Property now) PSP, and virtually no written rules, directives, orders, or any clear chain of command for club execs to deal with issues, (deep breath) I'll avoid. It will give me an aneurism just thinking about it. It was a whole lot simpler in the 80s and 90s. Now it's all about money, and politics, not so much about people.

We are not a civilian club. We are a DND Club. We follow the rules DND has set forth. CFAOs regarding sports, recreation, and clubs were rescinded a long time ago. PSP is the controlling agency, and we have to follow the rules as they have put forth, and that our Formation Commander and Wing Commander have given us. I think being President of the club, the guy who created the club, I know what the hell I'm talking about. I'm looking for feedback on the functionality of the MAAC Website, and issues with scheduling Events, and conducting Club Admin, i.e. changing contact and exec lists. Feel free to comment on those issues.
Sorry, Just trying to help out as I have some experience with RC clubs and the Military

Re: MAAC Website, and Events

Russ, unfortunately, you're bang on. We had the same date since we started the club, we made sure to pick one that was wide open, after talking to the Zone Director, to ensure that it was historically an empty weekend. We've got two other local clubs, the Halifax Electric Flyers Association, and Atlantic Society of RC Modellers that are in agreement with us, and are supporting a regional meeting to iron out next year's schedule, and stick to it. If we can get the other clubs in the vicinity to work with us as well, hopefully we'll solve the issue. Most of us would much rather see an even distribution of events, so we can all travel around and socialize!

Re: MAAC Website, and Events

If nearby clubs use the same dates every year conflicts shouldn't occur. It's when people start moving things around for their own convenience rather than looking at the larger view of the entire community that problems begin to crop up. eg. if the fun fly is on the 3rd Sunday of June every year, good neighbors don't have a conflicting activity the same weekend.

Just don't understand. You are civilian club that operates on military property with permission from the Queen. . I haven't been retired that long, 2003

Re: MAAC Website, and Events

Obviously Mike, you've been retired a long long time. CFAO's, long since superseded. Now we have DAOD's, TRPOL's and all sorts of new rules. However, rules governing the operations of CF Clubs are now in the hands of PSP. Since we opened membership to clubs a lot wider, they've incorporated protections to avoid drawing people away from existing civilian clubs. It did start way back though, when CF Flying Clubs, Power, were closed up. We're losing clubs at an alarming rate these days. PSP's rules specify the ethos of clubs, including not detracting from similar non-CF Clubs.

I do think we are a bit unique in the Halifax and outlying areas, lots of small clubs, so certainly an issue, but we've always been able to manage avoiding conflicting dates, until this year, thus suspect the process with the new website being the predominant factor.

Re: MAAC Website, and Events

I think you are unique and you may have to ask your ZD to cooperate as best he/she can. We try to avoid conflict but we sure don't want MAAC indicating we have a problem if there is an event a 100 miles away. We often conflict a bit and different strokes for different folks works!

Hi Dave,

I understand what you are saying. I wish I had a definative answer for you.

If your event was scheduled much earlier. It should have shown up on the events list for the Atlantic Zone. The other clubs clubs could have seen it and the date listed.

Really like to know who mandated that on your club. I have been a member of couple of military clubs and first i have heard of that. Which CFAO?
