Re: Hawker Hurricane Mk I by ESM

That looks like a nice big & flat open space to fly.

Re: Hawker Hurricane Mk I by ESM

SUCCESS yesterday, I re-flew the Hurri after patching it up over the past winter. I got two flights on it and it lands pleasantly so I feel that my initial suspiciousions that one of the flaps went fubar on the downwind landing leg causing an uncommanded roll to the right.... may have been on the mark. I was using an 18x8 Zinger, I need a bit more speed, I have a Top Flight 18x10 that I will try, would use an Xoar or Beila but I have a TF in the shop. Now that it's flying, I touch it up some more this winter. cheers - ken k.

Darren, i have this one, have to repair it after a "take off" incident that involved a pot hole on the runway.

Building the Vailly now - quite a project..

I thought of this kit. But decided to build the Vailly Hurri instead.

It's been said elsewhere, but worth repeating: can't have too many Hurricanes!

Re: Hawker Hurricane Mk I by ESM

If the nose was down it wasn't a stall, my bet one flap came down other didn't or wasn't as far

but I wasn't there, so jmy2cw

Re: Hawker Hurricane Mk I by ESM

I got the ESM Hawker Hurricane back on it's undercarriage this morning following last years unsuccessful test flight crash. The repairs are very basic, just to get a few flights in, once successful, I'll work on the finish, however one could say the Hurricane now has a scale combat appearance. I took pieces of the ESM covering to Canadian Tire, scanned the covering and got the green and brown matched fairly well, these CIL paint tester can were $7.00 each.

Photos are today, crash, tester paint, with Buds at Duxford gate guard last July, crash. The DLE 35RA flew it well on the five minutes I flew until coming in to land on a lh circuit, the Hurri began rolling to the right while on the down wind leg - stall, flap or elevator failure. RX sent to Horizon for check out. Flaps will not be used on the next flight.
