Re: Armattan Mirphite V2 - the midnight special

Scott for the life of me I can't find that Video. I should have bookmarked it.It was done by Armattan (Chris I believe)specifically for the tilt assembly but it isn't on his site under the tutorials.

I might send him a note to include it as this is indeed a confusing assembly without a guide. If I find it I will post it.

I was thinking of just putting some zip ties on the bottom frames to stop them getting scuffed up on pavement. Not across but few on each side frame to act as a bumper scuff point if that makes sense.

There is also a type of automotive c channel molding out there with an adhesive in it that may work for a skid.Let me know if you come up with something.

Beautiful build, I really like that design... very smart. It's great to see these new ideas coming to life on what frames can be. Thanks for posting.

Re: Armattan Mirphite V2 - the midnight special

where is that video Phil? I had no instructions, just some pictures. I had to assemble this thing by process of elimination! It is a bit of a monkey tree puzzle

I do have all the standoffs in place in the front, and can still tilt the cam all the way manually. Though probably not with a servo

I would have liked if the front end had a least 2 more standoffs to make it tougher. Then I might not have suffered destruction of one of the half circle plates.

I don;'t think the standoffs by the lipo are bad at all - the lipo fits snug and it is probably therefore not a weak spot. Most miniquad don't have any lipo crash protection, but this frame is very good for protecting the lipo.

The bottom plates are getting chewed up now from landing on rocks. Frame should come with some kind of rubber bumpers for the bottom I think. But I can probably rig up something for that.

Thanks for the tip on the Mobuis plate Buffy I hadn't noticed that.In fact the whole tilting assembly had me scratching my head. I just couldn't figure out how it went together but after much digging found a video.

I never though about the side profile either Scott. Good point. I am a little miffed why they didn't make the bottom frame a mm lower so a 4s would fit underneath the standoff. Also I notice when the Mobius is mounted the front standoff needs to be removed making the front plates a bit wobbly.
Oh well nit picks I still think its an awesome design.I really like how the arms are up high so I don't need a takeoff pad for the grass plus it keeps a low c of g if that matters.

Hopefully I can maiden this sucker tomorrow.

BC, flip the Mobius plate 180 degrees and the Mobius will sit further back and get more protection.

actually, I have the longer arms too. I just run 4 inch props to see how they fly - and I like them. I don't quite see the reason for the short arms, as it doesn't change the flying character much and nice to have the option of 5 inch

I also had to move the standoff to the back to fit the 4S lipos I have. Still the frame protects the lipo very well. I find I have to get the lipo very aft to balance with the mobius on there. I also like how the wide arms protected the motors very well too. Have bent many Cobra on my old Nighthawk with narrow arms

on a side note, was watching RC model reviews and he pointed something out I never thought of before: the flat sided frames are more affected by wind. This is one tall flat sided frame, and indeed the night I was night flying on a windy night and hit the pole, I was getting blown off the lines I intended to fly a bit. Usually the miniquads are so small and dense they don't notice high winds much at all. But then, there are a lot of holes for the air to pass through, not exactly slab-sided

Re: Armattan Mirphite V2 - the midnight special

yeah I'm putting a servo tilt. That's what sold me on this design.I have servo tilt on my other rigs and really like it.I only put a low percentage of tilt to still get some feedback.

I see you went with the shorter arms. I had a hard time deciding but ended up choosing the longer arms. It's set up for 4s and the battery just squeezes in there.I actually have to remove the spacer on the rear landing gear to allow the batt to fit.

Thanks for the tip on the Mobius I actually have the regular lens although I notice the flight cam does protrude beyond the guard when it is tilted up.

Nice build by the way.Sucks about the mobius but good to hear they honour the lifetime warranty.I think I may go with another one of their designs next time I build. I've got the wants for the tilt r and the tricopter. Damn this hobby is addictive!!!!

So are you using a servo to operate the camera tilt?

It is ingenius how they fit the MObius mount inside too. But watch out for the wide angle Mobius! It allows the lens to stick out, and I busted mine. Maybe stick with the original MObius A lens.

Armattan is sending me free replacement parts after I hit a black coloured pole, flying at night I hit the pole hard, but did not crash - just spun around and it kept flying another 3 minutes, LOL
