Some motors with good reviews - Tacon Big Foot: http://www.hobbypartz.com/bigfooutrubr.html

I have a Tacon Big Foot 60 and I am really happy with it. If I will ever go bigger, I will consider Tacon.

Motor and ESC Installed. Just have some soldering to do tonight, and it'll be ready for the maiden flight on saturday.

Thanks, Greg.

$149.99 is a great price. Mine, the Scorpion S4035, is more like $209.

I wish you a smooth build and a successful maiden flight!

Here's a video of my Yak55sp that I shot a few days ago:

Re: Motor suggestion for 30cc conversion 6S

Maxx,

I bought the motor from Aero Model (Hacker USA) http://www.aero-model.com/
It was 149.99. I really didn't do much shopping around though. The shipping was reasonable, around $25, and came within 5 days.

I can see what your saying about the BEC vs RX pack though. However, I'm gonna go with the separate RX pack for the simple fact that's how I've done it with all my gassers in the past. And I would rather have all the flight battery available for motor power. I switched all over to the 6.6V LiFe packs unregulated already, so I'm going to stay with that.

Thanks for the info though. I'll have install pics asap.

Cheers

Re: Motor suggestion for 30cc conversion 6S

Good stuff, Greg.

How much did you pay for the Hacker motor? Where are good places to buy Hacker motors?

I am using a separate BEC for my 26cc conversion. It saved my plane twice: one is when one of my 6Sx2 packs failed; the other when the motor smoked in the air and lost thrust.

My reasons to use a BEC:
1. I now only use lipo packs and the same kind of chargers (Simplify);
2. BEC can take packs of different cell numbers and often give you more than one voltage output (Flexible);
3. My BEC comes with indicator lights, which tells you if your battery is running low (Peace of Mind).

It suits a lazy person like me. I am not disciplined enough to check the voltage of my receiver pack for every flight using a battery voltage checker. If the voltage indicator lights are readily there, I wouldn't mind having a glimpse at them before the take-off.

The con that I can think of is that BEC is a more complicated system compared with a simple battery pack. So theoretically, a simple battery pack is more reliable. But if I mix charged batteries and discharged batteries as I often do, no theory can save my plane.

Re: Motor suggestion for 30cc conversion 6S

Well, I decided on an 8S set up. And look what came in the mail today!!! Here's the set-up as follows:

Hacker A50-14L
Ice 100
Nano 130C 8S 3850
XOAR PJN 18x8 or 19x8 (gonna see what I prefer)

I'll update the build on this thread. It'll be a quick one as the plane is pretty well ready to go.

One question though, For all the guys running this size plane, do you prefer a bec, or a separate RX pack? I'm leaning towards an RX pack, but pros and cons are appreciated.

Cheers

Greg
I would said go 8S not 6S before the weekend. But on friday i bought a used Sebart Sukhoi 20S 140e, 74" WS, 11.75lbs rtf with battery. It has an AXI 5325/16 on 6S. 20x10 prop. Was using a nano tech 6S 25C pack. Was flying 9mins, hovering 1/4 of flight, and coming down with 35-40% left. Had to watch throttle, was maxing the ICE100 at 101amps on full power vertical climbs!!! 2500W output!!! Got reduce the throttle top end a little. Put a temperature sensor on motor and current sensor telem system on sunday, the motor never peaked above 35C. Love this setup, one big 6S pack. Amazing.

Re: Motor suggestion for 30cc conversion 6S

Thanks Maxx,

What your saying makes perfect sense. And thanks for everyones opinion. I did some further research and I ordered the following set up:

Hacker A50-14L
Ice 100
8S 3850 Nano Tech Packs
18x8 & 19x8 PNJ Xoar Props

Also, Instead of a BEC, i'm simply going to use a 6.6life pack unregulated for the RX power. When I get everything in, i'll be sure to post pictures and a flight report.
Cheers
