Re: Torque tube or belt

So we are a bit off topic from the vibration issue but I am curious why your throttle HAS to be set at 100% for 2,3,4,5?

Now back to the tail vibe. Im thinking your gain might be a bit too high also. Back it off to 70%. When its flying around its constantly making changes to hold true. When you hover its hunting for center very rapidly. So I would ensure the belt is the right one. Then adjust tail and gains again. This is all assuming the tail did NOT contact the ground.

Throttle is set at 100% in position 2,3,4 and 5 with three cells it has to be that way. Never tried to look for idle up on my Futaba 6EX maybe I should check it out,one more switch to mess with.

Re: Torque tube or belt

So adjust your throttle so there is no change and adjust pitch curve to suit your needs. I like 80%-85% throttle at half stick. So when I switch to Idle up mode there is no change because my Idle up mode on throttle curve is also 80 or 85...the same.

Re: Torque tube or belt

I believe the belt is at fault. I don't do idle up or stunt mode 3D or stunt flying is not for me. I fly scale so my pitch and throttle are controlled as one. My throttle hold is set at 0, so when I have it in throttle hold no accidents happen.

Re: Torque tube or belt

Why is there a change in rpm? If in stunt more or idle up mode there should be very little rpm change.

I have about 4 used tail gears with the shaft that dont look bent but they are. Not even a straight edge will notice it but the heli will. Replace it and see what happends.

P.S. reading back to your first post. I would bet its the wrong belt if the vibration showed up out of nowhere.

Humming type vibration? I have no idea ... it's only guesses till you see it. I would start checking bearings (I guess) lol

Cheers

It look good in the air but when you hold it in a solid hover is when you see vibration.

Re: Torque tube or belt

Not tail wag, but a humming type of vibration. My gyro is a Futaba 240 set at 75% gain. The tail wag when it happens is from a drop in RPM I even took some 30 size tail paddles cut , shaped and balanced them to fit so I could have more tail surface. It works well 95% of the time it's only in those panic times you will see a tail wag.

I also run three cell 4000mha batteries, I'm going to try out a four cell in the near future I hope that will help with tail authority. I flew it today and it is for the most part rock solid the tail authority only comes into effect on rapid manouvers, well rapid for me anyway.

Well that's weird then ... Ben you say vibration ... do you mean a fast tail wag? like really fast? What gyro are you running in your 500? What's your gain set at? Too much gain will make that beast wag like mad.

I have both and ya, all my 500 and larger have the tails grounded. Since I tend to fly scale sometimes it depends on the raised tail conversion.
