Bullets, not ammunition. Actual 9mm NATO seconds from the plant. Basically, shaped lead about 50 grams each or so.

If I need serious weight, I make a trip down to the local garage and raid their tire weights bucket and melt them down for the actual lead. Dollar store plasticene makes a great basic mould, and I use a small propane grass burner (http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/p...300,44822&ap=1)

Dude; are you storing ammunition in the front end or??? Seriously, thanks for detailing the rebuild. I'm storing this info for future use.

Had lots of time this evening, so I went ahead and looked at soldering on the new larger connectors to fit the Power 46. I was rummaging through one of my storage boxes when I found the other HK 60/70 ESC (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...0_70A_ESC.html).

Out came the new soldering iron from Crappy Tire and wonder of wonders, I had the three motor connectors and the battery connector wired and the heat-shrink in place.

Then the 3-inch 8-32 bolts went into the disc and the stand-offs went on. I then got the disc into place and then added the motor. I then felt inside the fuselage and then used my favourite Hugh Grant quote "ball locks!" I'm going to have to take everything apart and swap out the 3-inch for the 2-and-a-half-inchers that I have.

Here's the disc with the new motor attached so the T-nuts can seat with a dot of glue to give extra bite. Here's the pictures of the disc as well as the current front ewnd of the plane.

Idea for replacing AXI with HeadsUpRC -- mount holes are way different!

When my AXI 2826/10 got its shaft bent, I tried my HeadsUpRC Sport 32 and it was a fair match for the mount used. However, the new motor didn't put out anywhere near the power that I got with the AXI on 5 cells -- kiloweatt club vicinity. I got less than a quarter of that power level with a 4S pack -- the maximum that the Sport 32 could put out.

So I ponied up and picked up the Firepower 46 (http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the...ort/Categories).

Downside is that mount is WAY too big to use the old AXI mount holes. We're talking more than a half-inch in every direction.

First attempt was to make a box mount. Results were not impressive as I was now looking at having to use L-brackets and more glue.

I didn't want to go through another cycle and pick up another mount, so I put it aside and thought about anything but the NexStar.

ON the way home on Thursday, the thought bubbled up -- why not install a new firewall, but use the original AXI stand-offs to position it where the old AXI mount was. Next step is to mount the HeasdUpRC mount directly to the new firewall.

First step was to cut a disc of 5-ply the right size for the HeadsUpRC mount and have enough meat for the T-nuts.

Next step was to position where the drillholes for the AXI bolts would go. They're going in at 45 degrees to the other mount so I don't have to worry about recessed bolt heads.

There is enough room in the nose for this to go into place but I'm wondering if I have to put in notches on the edges near the AXI mount boles to provide som extra airflow back to the main firewall and its cooling holes.

Comments and suggestions?

Pictures to follow once I get all the sawdust and wood chips tidied up on the workbench.
