Agreed I think it may be a game since a lot of people are not well organized.

OK so the link below is old but if it is inaccurate Ebay should take it down.
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Canada-USA-I...0067340/g.html

This is what I was going by and perhaps the story that claims $20 versus $800 is misunderstanding the gift mailed versus the bringing of goods back personally.

As I understood it we both can bring back $800 into our countries after 48 hours. Although 800US is 1100CDN right now as pointed out .

The below link is announcing "duties" regarding the $800 duty and we don't pay duties

May answer to the link is : if it so good down in the US move there !
And pay a $1000 or whatever a month in medical insurance. One can't always have their cake and eat it to.

Check out the taxes and duties that hobbyist pay in Europe. Pretty stiff.

As Peter M says back to PayPal..... you don't see very much for private sales
on EBay any more. Most of it is sold by businesses to generate the sales they want.

Was trying to discuss the receiviing of parcels both ways but got the $amount wrong on the US side.

I believe the $800 when returning to Canada is indeed equal when returning to the US but not quite due to US$ versus CDN $, but that is when returning not receiving mail.
If I could receive $200 in the mail as the Americans do a lot of my hobby purchases would be free of tax since I don't buy large dollar items these days.
That's all and good Dennis, but its not what the thread is about. Since its about Ebay the chances of us buying and picking up in the US is very minimal. However to purchase and item and have it mailed to Canada via the US is where we Canadians get screwed.

Read here.. It clearly shows that only items $20 or less are duty Free. In the US they are duty free up to $800 US!! So thats $1100CAN and that's just not fair! http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/po...drttx-eng.html

If they would even out the odds, I would be much more likly to shop from the US, but since it is clearly another scam put forth by our gov. Ill stick to buying direct from China and paying no taxes or duties.

As for Ebay.ca? What a joke. Google has set it so that any searches for items in Canada shows there is only 1-3 items(if your lucky) but then of course shows you hundreds or the same item in the US. I know we don't have the same population here, but come on. Do your own searches on Ebay.ca and youll see what I mean.

Our government in typical wisdom, would prefer me to go have a mini-vacation in the USA and spend my tourist dollars there and then save $100 on our tax as a result of my 48 hour spending spree in the USA.
I would have to say that your statement isn't quit right. this is from the horses mouth so to speak... Canada brought our exemptions more in line with the US several years ago. Now don't misquote; I said more in line not necessarily exactly the same.

I was curious about Horizon and went to their site last night and put together an order. By default, it used the global shipping, huge rip off. There was an option for just paying shipping changes which was $35 and I am responsible for duty and taxes. That would be a safe route and then if they ship by UPS or FedEx, get the tracking number, call them so that you can clear the package yourself to avoid brokerage charges, pay your taxes and be exempt for the duty if it applies.

So when you get an email from PayPal and they ask you to sign the petition? DO IT
Let's just be clear. The US let's their citizens bring in $800. OUR GOVERNMENT let's us bring in $20 without tax. Correction....the US allows $100 gift from family and friends to be mailed duty and tax free and $200 other items duty and tax free while we are allowed $60 for a gift from family and friends and $20 other items. We are screwed by our government, not the US government.
