Re: RC Truck for beginner I started this hobby in December 2012. My first R/C was a Traxxas Rustler XL-5 which was on sale from Best Buy. This is a great starter R/C based on your budget. Part support is literally everywhere. For pricing I think Best Buy is the cheapest and shipping is usually free. When you start upgrading, hobby stores (both online and in-person) tend to be way cheaper than Best Buy. Good luck! |

Re: RC Truck for beginner You're going to get 100 different answers to this question, but I'll put in my 2 cents. I would take a look at the Traxxas stampede 4x4 for several reasons. 1. It's fast enough that you won't get bored of it in 3 weeks. If you buy something with the intent of upgrading it later, you'll end up spending more in the long run, for what might end up being a lesser vehicle. 2. In stock form it is very capable on and off road. 3. It is easy to get replacement parts, and upgrades for. 4. The latest version comes with a Lipo battery and charger in the box: http://www.greathobbies.com/producti...od_id=TRX6708L |

Re: RC Truck for beginner I would get a emaxx. I have tried every monster truck out there and the emaxx is the most dependable truck I ever owned. |

Re: RC Truck for beginner I think a good all rounder is the ECX Ruckus. I have one and that is one tough truck. |

Re: RC Truck for beginner Yea, it all depends on what you are planning to do. Do you want to race at a track or play around at a park? electric or gas? do you want to build it, or unbox it and race it? Traxxas is one I feel is very friendly to new enthusiasts. |

Re: RC Truck for beginner There's a great forum over here where people discuss the best first models all the time. Not knowing anything about you I'd say buy a Traxxas Rustler from Future Shop for about $250. Drive it for awhile... then when you want more speed buy a brushless combo with charger and lipo from HobbyKing with your next $150. Keep the final $100 for parts. |

Re: RC Truck for beginner A few questions for you: What do you want to do with your RC? Formal racing, bashing (jumping, informal racing, etc), rock crawling, or something else? If racing, do you want to do onroad (asphalt) or off-road (dirt/indoor carpet)? Will do you any wet weather driving? Do you have any friends with RC cars (sometimes, it's good to stay with the same brand so they can help or have spare parts)? Lastly, what brands do your local hobby stores stock and do they keep parts? |
