But looks like Dallas is closest source so are there some IMAC guys there that you might be able to spend a weekend with practicing? |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Cam - that's a difficult one to solve given that you are a one man show. I know what it is like to be on your own. Fortunately we have a few great guys up here who are very helpful. Drive on up when the snow melts and I will hook you up with some really good coaches !! Or try to get to the US Nats in July and you will see snaps, snaps, and more snaps !! |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Hi Bill, thank you so much. I live in Shreveport, which is in northwest corner of Louisiana, about 2.5 hour drive from Dallas, Texas. After 2006, IMAC in Shreveport died. We had some real active members back then, who were flying IMAC at our club, Jonah Pharr and Jeremy Holt. After 2007, for what ever reason, they stopped flying, and there were no more contests here. In 2014, I got into IMAC, and last year, I brought back the IMAC contest to Shreveport, and will host it again this year. Unfortunately, there is no one around here that I can look to. Wish there was. I look to you all. I will try to see if someone can film me tomorrow, and I will post it here for you all to see. Best regards Cam |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Cam - I know that you have posted the same questions in the IMAC forum and guys are trying to help you, but I think this is hard to solve over the internet. Only possible with video. Are there any guys you fly with down there that could watch your flight and assess your snap rolls ? I find you pretty much need to work with an Advanced or Unlimited pilot to get your throws right. As you know for a snap you need pitch and autorotation. Either pitch just before or simultaneously with autorotation. No pitch is a zero of course in IMAC. So pitch up for positive and down for negative snap with the nose and tail drawing a corkscrew type rotation (nose drawing a circle as the plane rotates and tail also). Compared with my normal rates my snap condition rates are slightly less elevator and rudder and slightly more aileron. So you need elevator but generally not much, maybe 7-8 degrees, about 12-15 degrees of rudder and about 20-22 degrees of aileron. Of course this is all airframe dependant and it is a little dangerous to give general rates. You just have to start somewhere and tweak them (as you are doing). Best do do with a good coach if you can find one. |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Here's the cheat. Don't put up elevator in, Just use aileron and rudder. |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Could you post a video? I assume that your stick position switches are tied to the throttle position ie. at idle (where you would be on a vertical down line snap) you would likely need more deflection of the surfaces to get the same "look" to the snap. |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Hello, can anyone give me advice on performing a downline + snap, with my 46 pound aerobatic airplane? I am flying the intermediate sequence, and there are 3 snaps in it. the 1st one is a downline + snap, the 2nd snap is a 1/2 cuban, and a -snap on the 45 degree down, followed by an opposite direction 1/2 roll, and the third one is a 45 degree upline, enter inverted, Negative snap, followed by same rotation 1/2 roll exit upright and level to a spin. I am able to very clean, perform the last two snaps, and they demonstrate very clean and crisp auto-rotation. The 1st snap, on the down line, It is difficult for me to say, it is snapping? Help.... I am using a transmitter, where I have programmed, for logical switches, to help with this downline + snap, such that, when the sticks are buried to bottom corners, it will create a increased deflection. Yesterday, I played with it, and was able to increase the aileron, then aileron, elevator, rudder, then more aileron, then more elevator, and maybe, it looks like it is doing it, but I just do not know what it should look like. |

Re: Snap Roll ... How to? Hey! Just stopped in here on my monthly visit. I've recently been doing some full scale Aerobatic research. I came across a post that was super interesting having been through all the RC snap roll discussions. It's written by a full scale pitts pilot, but it could have been written by any one of us. I found it comforting that the "big guys" have the same arguments over bury-ing and cheating the snap. It's worth a look: http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum...ad.php?t=67406 Also the two videos he shows are very useful as well: Burried "Flopping Around Snap": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ose7kcd_zKo#t=681 Practicing the snaps in a pitts. I notice that he does pretty much the same thing with the controls as I do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...AcXjBPB0Q#t=89 See ya! Tom |
