Re: Tribute set-up Not yet, seems I have "misplaced" a allen screw that holds the carb into the throat of the engine. By the time I stole another one out of another engine, the wind got up to "Mach Chicken". Curt, I have been thinkin' about your question, and I believe that with only 2 bolts sharing the torque on the LG, there is a higher likelyhood of a failure in the fuselage! If the LG was one piece, the load would be shared by the 4 bolts. Pushing on 2 and pulling on 2, more-or-less. |

Re: Tribute set-up So...did you maiden yet? I want to know if the bobble head messes with your CG. |

Re: Tribute set-up The main gear is two piece aluminum. What I don't like about it is that most gear failures happen as a result of wood failure (allowing the gear to roll towards the rear and up) directly above the leading edge of the gear. Being two piece, gives it another axis (rolling towards the center line)to fail on. Perhaps this design will prevent a total failure of the gear and only let half of it fail, but I doubt it. Dale always tries to spread the stress on the wood around the LG out by using carbon fiber along a plane that will strengthen the structure, You can be rest assured there are many of these cheap ARFs that do that! Now that I know it needs additional weight up front to get the CG correct, I think I will take piece of metal (appropriate to adjust the CG) and drill holes in it and put it over top of the joint of the gear. The mounting screws they provided are lots long enough to allow me to do this. |

Looks good Brent. The original Twist 40 version came with a one piece aluminum main landing gear.... are yours two piece aluminum or fiberglass/graphite? What exactly don't you like about the two piece gear? The H9 Showtime 90 came with a two piece graphite and they worked fine. My Seagull Yak came with a two piece aluminum and so far so good also If you really want a good durable landing gear, get a set of these Dubros...I have 3 sets in use and they work great. http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=DUB789 |

Re: Tribute set-up Well here is the replacement. This the first H9 ARF I've put together. I like everything except the 2 piece LG, and it required additional lead in the nose. The CG (according to the manual) is anywhere from 4-5 inches. I set up at 4 1/4". I'd rather be nose heavy on the maiden than tail heavy, BTDT!! Oh! Forgot, pilots out my way are a lil Goofy! |

Re: Tribute set-up Yeah, it has been a bugger. I am only into my 9th month of flyin' (gettin' real close to 200 hrs in the air) and I have doinked 3 beyond repair (relative term). Two that will be repaired when the snow flies, and my Sig riser that needs a balsa diet (will fly, but crap is it heavy after the repairs). But hey, theres no fun in ownin' 'em if your not gonna fly 'em. I have put together about 5 breeds of ARFs and am working on my 4th kit build. The Twist is the first Hanger 9 ARF I've worked on, things are snug (ie the HS into the fuse), and I sure will check out that weak spot. So far, I like what I've seen with this little heart stopper! One thing that I don't like is the 2 piece landing gear. If the gear off the defunked 4*40 fits anywheres close, I will use it. I now have a preferance as to which company builds the best ARF! And there is one company that couldn't give me an ARF. I won't go into it on a public thread but if anyone wants to know, they can PM me! |

Sorry to hear that Brent.... you've had a tough year plane wise! The Twist is a great flying plane also.... my bro had one and it was a great funflier. The 1st version (yellow one) did have a weak point and that is right behind the canopy on the fuse.... a rough 3 pointer and she could fold like a cheap suit. Maybe check this area out and beef up accordingly. |

Re: Tribute set-up Sad to report that the Tribute is no more. About 8 minutes into its second flight, either the switch or the plug-in to the switch from the battery failed. Thats the second time this year that that switch/battery combo has done this. I am a little slow on the pick-up, but my lesson has now been learned. Yesterday the Tributes replacement showed up. The 40 size Twist will have HD switches (ordered all they had and arrived with the ARF), and the 2 batteries that I bought from the LHS are relegated to bench duty only! That plane was a blast to fly. I didn't fly it very low, and 3 mistakes with it is waaaaay up there! This is a plane that requires multiple rates, I had a brain fart and took of the second flight on HIGH rates. That was exciting too!!! There is no feeling, I've ever had, as sickening as watching a plane go in, and you have no control. No remorse over this one, I paid 20 bucks for the airframe, and all my servos and inards survived. The flights worked out to just a little under a dollar a minute, I've done worse! |

Glad to hear the maiden went OK.... once you get used to plane and the willies subside, the fun factor goes way up and the landings become a non issue and get really short. Have fun... after all, they are called funfliers for a reason |

Re: Tribute set-up Well the maiden was a success, in so far as nothing to fix! The TO was abrupt, and short. Keeping in mind my mentors wise words "smooth" was a great thing to remember. I do have some tweekin' to do, the throttle hung up on the fuselage so the minimum throttle was 50% and up. The flight lasted 16 minutes and 24 seconds, until it ran out of fuel. I've had this issue before, and being able to instantly switch to "glider landing" mode. Landed a lot further away than planned, but the greasy side was down and the wheels were in the same place as when I started. Here is what I used on the DX8 TX Aileron Position 2 D/R 50 Expo 40 Position 1 D/R 75 Expo 30 Position 0 D/R 100 Expo 0 Rudder Position 2 D/R 100 Expo 45 Position 1 D/R 100 Expo 20 Position 0 D/R 100 Expo 0 Elevator Position 2 D/R 50 Expo 40 Position 1 D/R 70 Expo 50 Position 0 D/R 100 Expo 0 This thing is a blast to fly, probably even more fun when I get the throttle issue resolved. |
