I have the Seagull Extra 75 and had no problems with assembly, instructions were a little vague but a bit of internet searching helped. The landing gear is no good in my opinion and will be replaced before first flight. Overall should be a good plane, Good luck with yours.

Curt if you want to look at mine sometime to see fit and finish PM me and when you are in Regina you can come and look.

Re: New toy has arrived - Seagull Edge 540 60

I have the 1.20 size edge540 arf .It is very well built kit lots of wood not many cutouts.Yes it is heavier than some other arfs out there. But i like a kit thats stronger over the light ones.Like dean said i strenthened the firewall more and the landing gear needed more strength. So i went to a sheet metal shop told him i wanted the same thickness as the main gear he made me 2 aircraft aluminum grade and attached these on the inside legs of the mains. They were just a bit shorter bolted on with 440 bolts.Work fantastic.

Well, the overall quality seems good. Looks like they did a good job gluing and covering. Hardware is standard....plastic spinner, nylon horns, metal clevises and pushrods (I was expecting carbon which comes with the 40 size version I think). Instruction manual is very vague (as a matter of fact, I think the assebly is all from the 40 size), intended for experienced buiders who can overcome poor illustrations and lack of detailed descriptions. So far, some modifications were required...such as shortening the wing tube, cutting the wheel axles, and widening the engine mount, which is all a bit of a pain.

Re: New toy has arrived - Seagull Edge 540 60

How are you finding the overall build quality, fit and finish of this brand of ARF??
My bro has been looking at getting one and I am curious also about the quality.
I know that the landing gear would definately be needing an upgrade, but anything else?
How is all the supplied hardware... good or needs to be swapped out for better stuff??

Thanks
Curt

Looks like a good combo. It's a real crap shoot with those pre-drilled engine mounts, eh? I've had the same problem, kinda wish ARFs would just have the firewall marked but not drilled..

Keep the posts coming.

Re: New toy has arrived - Seagull Edge 540 60

Managed to install the engine today. Ended up to be quite a bit of work. The engine mount wasn't wide enough to accomodate the engine. I had an extra large mount I could have used, but that would entail drilling new holes in the firewall and installing new blind nuts. I ended up enlarging the holes in the included mount, making them closer to the inside and allowing the mount to spread further apart. This worked perfectly.

Got my engine in the mail today. It's an ASP 1.08 2-stroke (a copy of the OS 1.08 FSR). 750 grams, 3HP. Can't go wrong for the price. This is my 4th ASP engine.

Along with that, got some props in 14x8, 15x8 and 16x8 sizes.

Thanks, it's very strong. I'm going to do the same on my Pitts this winter.

I like the look of that Edge of yours. Should be a great flyer. Everything else about the Seagull I have is really good, and once balanced it flies great, very aerobatic. My favorite plane right now.
