Re: Durafly Vampire 70mm EDF maiden

It's in the classifieds, I have a ready to fly Great Planes mini L-39. Its been strengthened with glass cloth and polyurethane. Has a hyperflow fan w/3500kv inrunner and flies on 4S, it will get your pulse racing, no question there

Just before my flight I called out at the field I have a bad feeling about flying the Vampire today.

To correct the pitch up I left the exit mod in that 4stripes suggested, added elevator down trim and I also added a mix so the more throttle I added the more elevator throw was introduced. The Bolt lipo was pushed all the way forward. From take off the plane was flying great. Pitch up was gone, it sounded like a turbine and the power was great. Just when I called out I was going to land I lost elevator contract and it spiraled into the ground.

I have another fuselage I am going to rebuild with my electronics. The next one will not have retracts so I will go light.

Which L39 do you have? The Vampire is OK but i prefer speed on rails verses scale flight. I am have having fun with my Rifle. I am going to try a 5x5 prop soon instead of the 4.75x4.75 I am using.

Wow, the Turnigy Bolt HV lipo turned my Vampire into dust. What a great battery...

All I can say is wow. I have a Nano Tech 4S 3300mah lipo that is about 2-3 years old. It has not been used much put in the Vampire I am getting 700W @ 47A. I just tried a brand new Turnigy Bolt 4S 3450mah HV lipo charged to 4.35v per cell and I am getting 855W @ 51A. If these have a reasonable life span I would say these are a winner.

Its a tried and true 160mph setup in the Reverb, good enough for some casual sport flying

Re: Durafly Vampire 70mm EDF maiden

Just a side note on the vampire. After a little digging around I found that I have 2 x 4S 3300mah Nano Tech lipos I use for my nitro starter. I charged one up and dropped it into the Vampire for a static test and had it pulling high 700W and hold so my 5S lipo was definitely the problem. I ordered two Turnigy Bolt 3450mAh 4S 15.2V 65~130C HV Packs which should arrive tomorrow. I bet they will wake up the power system.

I did a few wide open runs but I mostly flew at 1/4 throttle to get used to the plane again so I was not hard the lipo. I was also working on dialing in my throttle to elevator mix.

I have maidened a few vampires for members at my club, and it will float in very slowly on landing.

Sorry to hear about the viperjet, I have one as well and that one is a totally different animal, it actually flies really nicely when you get it dialed in, but it will snap on you very quickly if flying too slowly or when you use too much elevator.

P.S. after crashing a composite viperjet, the only thing that helps is getting another viperjet
You missed my point. The gyro will mask a stall or delay it till much later than the plane would normally get to. The normal elevator feel is gone when using high gain on the pitch axis. Without holding elevator on approach the pilot doesn't know how slow or how close the plane is to stall.
