Re: Fuel proof Paint?

Hi Guys;

I had the same challenge to shoot over acrylic latex. I have used clear LustreKote in the past and it is fabulous. Goes on light in dust coats, flows nice and is 100% fuel proof. Have had trouble locating it in Canada as there is no French labelling and they can't ship it across the border. You'll get the old environmental story but it is really a language police issue! If you can get some grab it. I had six cans shipped to my buddy in Florida over the winter and he is bringing it back next week. I can hardly wait.

I bought a can of Tremclad clear and ran some tests with it. No doubt it is fuel proof but I found it went on like syrup, didn't flow well and tended to fish eye. I even warmed the can up in hot water to see if I could get better results with a second wheel pant and it was the same story. I shot a ready to paint wheel pant, so it was done on a real plane part ready to go, not just balsa. Junk, compared to the LustreKote. I am tring to stay away from the 2 part stuff. I don't want my time controlled when I am working and you have to go with that stuff and if you don't use it all up it's a waste.

Also, the butyrate dopes, which I believe is the base of Lustercote, are 100% fuelproof. Just don't use it on foam

Re: Fuel proof Paint?

According to Monokote's website, Topflite Lustrecote, is ".completely fuelproof in 24 hours". This I find is amazing in that I've always used a two-part epoxy paint with a clear coat for 100% protection against 30% nitro fuels.

Here you go. Their website doesn't do them justice. Much more than shown on the website.

Michel, can you provide a P/N and/or source? My cans of pre-"Green" paint are getting pretty low.
