The Tempest is one of my favourite planes. I love the elliptical wing coupled with the monster Napier Sabre engine. My dad built the Tomeo Tempest back in the mid 80's. He used light glass cloth applied with thin CA and then filled with dope and talcum powder. It was remarkably light, ~15 lbs. After he passed away, I finished up the details and initially flew it on a first generation OS 1.20 4 stoke. It flew beautifully but did not have that "warbird" feel. So a ST 2500 was swapped in and that was much better! That was until I had an engine failure and ended up landing downwind in a plowed field at the KW scale rally. It is still in the basement partially fixed up. I really should finish the repair and get it going again. I will probably put a modern 30cc engine in it. With a 50 it will be a rocket!
