Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Well to keep you all up to date. Traxxas replaced my original servo, and threw in a inner and outer cv arm/Drive shafts, and a pair of diff outer ring gears. While this was in the mail, I was running in a second servo I had bought, while at a sit still my wife noticed some smoke from the car!!!? WTF? The servo coughs fire and burned a hole. So I wrote traxxas again, Explaining. Well later that night I decided to cut the connection off the burned servo and use it for the new end of some LED's I wired earlier that week. When I pluged in the ESC to check for power on my lights, it wouldn't turn on!? I tried everything I could in an hour and wrote traxxas back again that night with my update. Well after a bit, they told me to mail it in to the shop and there guys would determine what was the cause. In the end I received today a new in box xl2.5 and steering servo. Finally after a month+ I got to drive my truck.
When calibrating the two servo's I ran into a lot of chatter between them. I kept adjusting and found as close to perfect as I can, there was still a little talk, but if I bump the wheel a tiny bit the chatter stops.??? Weird maby get some adjustable rods to pull in slack.
Anyways
Let me know what ya think

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Whelk here's a quick video, it ain't much.
Just a paint job, diff grease, transmission switch. And a pussed out rock pile. The previous piles kept breaking axles.

Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think.

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Yeah exactly, getting wheels cought in rocks, and forcing my truck up and over them I guess, proabably doesnt help much. I loosened the slipper before the last axle broke, still didn't help. Any one have any high quality replacent parts to tell me about? Also, is there any metal servo gears that fit in the mini summits servo box?

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

If the problem is torque, going to a smaller pinion or higher turn motor will just make it worse.

What were you doing when you broke the axles? Are the wheels getting caught up in rocks and binding?

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Has anyone else done the transmission gear swap? I'm not sure but since then I broke three drive axles, I'm assuming it's the torque, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same, and perhaps any suggestions on how to resolve the issue, perhaps a smaller pinion, or a higher turn motor? Or both ????
Cheers guys,

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Not really... clicking usually means something is stripped.

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Sorry no video yet, the clicking started before the second servo, basically the reason for the second. At first I thought it was the diff's but I changed them, and I noticed it was defiantly the stering. Does the servo savers usually make clicking sounds when it does it thing?
Again thanks guys, lots of help great forum

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

It could be one of a few things.

You could have a stripped servo, but that seems unlikely since you have two servos in it, and I doubt both would be stripped in the same place. It could be a sticking servo saver. It could also be stripped servo arms.

Any chance you have a video of it in action with the problems happening?

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

Nah I have the stock 2.2 canyon AT tires, I'm doing slow "crawling" and hill climbs, trail runs, but when my wheels are turning at a stand still or crawl, they "click" and strain to turn. Could it just be the servo saver? It's like the servo arms a stripping in their teeth in the mount or something I really have no clue other than its having troubles adjusting and clicking under stress or load

Re: 1/16 summit upgrade question

What size of tires are you running that two servos are having trouble keeping up? Is there any binding in the steering linkages? My revo with one servo has plenty of steering grunt, even at really high speeds and higher than stock weight. I can even push down to bottom out the suspension and the wheels still turn easily.
