Re: Lipo / Bat / ignition

I'm happy to see you are using LiFe packs ... as they are stable during charge, and you don't need to use a Regulator for an on-board setup, be careful ... some ignitions may need a Regulator... I also recommend the Real 123 packs as they last a lot longer , I have some that are 4 years old and still perform like new... and some of the flat Life packs I used had deteriorated in less than 2 seasons ... Happy landings !

Hi

To the above post : NO THANK YOU , I DON,T WANT ANY BATTERY,S . If youre not on topic , WHAT DO YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Dave

I,m not going to disagree with you , what I will say is that things change . As mentioned , I,m useing A123 cells , and theses are not the same animal , as youre regular lipo , that most people use .

If you have a few moments . have a look at this site :

http://www.hangtimes.com/a123_batter...iants_faq.html

Most of the big guys are useing A123,s . I don,t own a lot of lipo,s , in fact I have a 450 heli , and a Stryker , which use,s the standard lipo,s , that most people use . These are kept in a metal box , and nothing is in harms way .

BTW ,............. I am making my battery,s accessible . At this time I am learning from the above site .

Have a good one

No Debate ... I don't know who you fly with or where you fly ... but it seems none reads or heeds warning that come's with Lipo Batteries... Bring Marshmallows !
There is a Reason they recommend you charge them in a battery Bag or fire proof container and not leave them unattended while charging...

I have watch many , and I mean a lot of IMAC guys charge their lipo,s in the plane . I have , " NEVER " , " EVER " seen , not even one guy , take out there , lipo battery's to charge them , and I do mean , " NEVER "
. But , some of them ( many ) , do have A123 , packs And this is what I,m going to be useing

And I don,t want to go NIMH , I think these battery,s , SUCK JUICE , for absolutely no reason .

When I mentioned , " LIPO s " , in my first post , I ment A123,s , 6.6 volts .

Re: Lipo / Bat / ignition

Hi

The new ignition modules accept 8.4 volts ( 2 cell lipo,s ) , I have a DLE-RA,s 55 , and 35 . Both accept 8.4volts . NO REGULATORS NEEDED !!!!!!

I just bought two , 2 cell packs ( 2500 Mah ), with extra leads , from Jeff , for much less than the price indicated in that site

Thanks for the site

Go Here http://www.shop.kavarootusa.com/cate...?categoryId=10
Note you still need a voltage reducer for the Rcexl units.
Call Richard and go over what you are setting up. He will give solid advice.

Re: Lipo / Bat / ignition

Hi guys

Thanks for the reply.s , it truly does help .

williame3590 , you had to throw in a wrench in my thoughts , didn,t you.( I forgot about that rule ) But , you are absolutely right , it is , " SOP " , to remove the lipo battery for charging . But , I treat my lipo,s with a whole ton of respect . I am aware of the dangers .

Dismantling a large scale P-51 , is no easy task , and most of all , it is time consuming , something I don,t like doing at the field .

I will pass on this rule , But , I will remove the battery when , " NOT " in use .
With this decision made , I will be putting in charging jacks , and possibly an access panel door , for charging and balancing .

Sometimes we are left with decisions we don,t like , or pick the best of two evils . many thanks for youre comments williame3590 . Note taken

If anyone has any other options or solutions , please chime in.

Michel
