Re: Clear windows ?

Thanks for all the tips everyone ! Looks like I will have to build more planes to try them all . I will try the Weld bond first mainly because I have that in stock . I am getting close to covering and by the weekend I should be able to put the windows in . I cut out the sides under the wing to make the side windows instead of the stickers they send with the kit. The stickers they sent were both for the same side anyway so they would not have worked too well

The weldbond works best because you can clean it up while it's still wet if you make an error. I use the rc 56 which is pretty much the same, works out nicely.Nice job your doing there get her ready for spring!!

Re: Clear windows ?

Gotta agree, Weldbond works well, it's actually basically the same as RC56 glue, once cured, it is clear. If you are careful, Goop works real well, and it won't ever come off. I usually put a thin coat of that where ever I want the window glued down, let it set up for 10 minutes or so and then put the window into it. excess can usually be rolled off with your finger once it is tacked up enough.

Re: Clear windows ?

Thanks Gary I will give that a try and hopefully I won`t make a big mess I am a little way from that point but just wanted to make sure I have what I need on hand .

According to the plan it says to cut out the windshield and test fit it to the outside. Then take it back out and cover the model and then glue it on to the model.

If it's just a sport or sport scale model, I just iron clear Monokote on to make the windows. Works great!

Re: Clear windows ?

Are the windows to attach from the inside or out? Either way there should be some surface to allow a glue line.

I have had a lot of success lately with wallpaper edge glue available in a tube from Home Depot for approx $8. A bit runny at first, but I put a bit in a cup, let it set a touch, then brush it onto the area to bond. If you need a filet use a wet finger to form. Just ensure both surfaces are absolutely clean. Alcohol works well, but avoid window cleaner as some leave a film.

Dries absolutely clear and so far shows no tendency to degrade in sunlight or fuel/exhaust.

Only concern would likely also be identical with the new version of our old standby RC56 canopy glue, (if available) in that porous surfaces such as bare wood allow the glue to set much faster. If you apply the window or canopy to a fiberglass or painted surface then it can take forever unless there is provision made inside for airflow.

Clear windows ?

Whats the best way to attach the clear windows in a model?
I have not done this before and I am thinking I don`t want glue around the edges or do you just glue it and cover/paint where the glue is ?
Thanks
Kevin
