Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

Actually a handful of quads exist that are far cheaper then the Phantom-Funny thing is they keep selling like hotcakes for some crazy reason and the websites keep popping up everywhere.I would go as far as saying that RC hobby in general is definitely trending Phantoms right now.I've flown the QR350 Pro OK quad but I'd never swap my Phantom for it.Something about the Phantom-not exactly sure what it is but one isn't enough.I want 1 of every kind.Phantom 1,vision,FC-40,Phantom 2.

You can get the Walkera QR350 from Hobbyking, fully loaded with brushless gimble and everything for the price of a standalone Phantom.

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

Phantom 2 is an outstanding platform for the money for FPV.money saved would be used to upgrade the gear which makes all the difference.5.8 with tracking setup to complete. Not at the commercial level by any means but perfect for back yard hackers. If your a DIY'er then so many options exist for much less money then DJI.Good luck if you need any advice I know a very little bit of info. to help you out.

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

I have no idea just how many fly away but have read up on a few different threads on the topic but at one of my photography forums a member posted this in a thread re the Phantom he had just bought & flown a few times.

"In terms of it flying off while being used is very low as long as you follow pre-flight checks and make sure that the unit gets satellite lock before taking off. All fly-offs are due to the fact that the pilot didn't wait for the UAV to lock onto gps signal and set home point before take off."

I wouldn't be quite that certain the term "all fly-offs" fits but it may account for a good percentage since it does need to know where home is before lift off. .

Has DJI resolved the fly-away issues with the Phantom? You may want to look into it.

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

Henry's is usually in line with "suggested" retail pricing recommendations which makes me think that estimate may include a GoPro camera too. Most importantly for those who do their homework Henry's does price matching & from experience they do it willingly & quickly when you show them that another Canadian dealer sells the same item at a lower price. Before buying anything expensive (photography related) I shop here.

www.photoprice.ca

And I'd bet that once quads become more available they'll be added to the list.

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

My friend in Photography siad he talked to the Henry's people about buying a quad.

They told him $1500 + taxes for the Phantom with the gimballed camera mount.

Then I went onto great Hobbies website and found the same one for $959!

Henry's will be making a tidy profit selling these puppies to unsuspecting Photography buffs!!

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

Henry's didn't have ANYTHING in stock when I checked earlier this week. Is it possible the truckers strike in BC has something to do with low to no stock just about everywhere?

Re: looking to purchase a multi roter helicopter

Does Henry's have the Phantom in stock? DJI cut out Colin Quinn, left him high and dry. He built up all the North American DJI dealers, got the ball rolling and then let him go and tried to sell directly to all his dealers. He filed an injunction and now they can't sell to his dealers until it's settled in court. DJI can sell to new dealers that they setup and perhaps that's why you see Henry's selling them now. This is what I've heard through the grapevine, can't confirm it for sure but it sounds like something they would do, especially with all the competition now.
