Re: Togg - Thompson /\Okanagan Glider group

I really enjoyed my one day visit and regret not being able to get out another day.
Gliders/sailplanes were great! So were the towplanes. My first visit to such an event and I was impressed at the tows and activity.
Lester's field is looking pretty darn good. A little grass seed that "catches" and it will be quite the runway.

Vernon Aerotow 2016

Friday, July 1st – Sunday, July 3rd 2016

North intersection of Hwy 97 and St Annes Road

Directions: Take BC 5 N to Kamloops. BC 5 N becomes BC-1 (Trans-Canada Hwy) just south of Kamloops. Continue on Hwy 1 east from Kamloops about 28 km to Monte Creek. Take exit 399 from Trans-Canada Hwy to BC-1E /BC-97 S toward Monte Lake and Falkland. Follow Hwy 97 south about 74 kms to the intersection with St Annes Road. Turn left and continue on St Annes Road for approximately .3 km then turn right into the flying field. Follow the R/C glider signs to the Parking and Camping area.

Event Details: Come and enjoy aerotowing beautiful large scale gliders in BC’s Okanagan valley at a time when thermals are plentiful. Slope lift may also be available depending on wind direction thanks to the 300 ft slope just off the northwest end of the grass runway. Launch off the grass and land on large smooth area with no fences or obstructions to snag tow lines or cause damage during landings. Bring your sailplane with an aerotow release installed. Electric sailplanes can be flown but aerotowing activity takes precedence and will limit "electrics" flying time.

Landing fee: $20.00 CDN for the 3-day weekend. Single day fee: $15.00 CDN.

Lunch: Additional optional charge of $5.00 per day for “gourmet BBQ hot dogs” and hamburgers served at the field at lunch break. Complimentary ice-cold bottled water will be available at the field each day. Pre-packaged take-out food is available at many locations in Vernon, about a 15 minute drive from the field.

Pilots meeting: at 9:00 a.m. each day. MAAC or AMA card required. Glider launches from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. St Annes RC Air Force members use the field after 3:00 p.m. NO SMOKING or consumption of alcohol is permitted at the flying field.

Saturday BBQ: Join us Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Greg and Sue Davis, 707 Salmon River Road, for a no-host BBQ (same pricing as at the field) to meet new friends, catch up with old friends and watch video of take off, landing and tug pilot stunt flying.

Accommodation: Many hotels and motels in Vernon, but tourist traffic will be heavy during this holiday long weekend so book early. Overnight camping and RV parking are available on site starting on Thursday, June 30th. No hookups are available. Event Coordinator: Greg Davis (250) 833-1993 or original_greg_of_canada@yahoo.ca

This is a joint, MAAC-sanctioned event of the St Annes RC Air Force and the Anderson Sod Busters Model Glider Club.

Re: Togg - Thompson /\Okanagan Glider group

Yup...just a note folks that July 1 -3 will the dates for the Vernon Aerotow at Lester's field. Should be lots of cool gliders being towed aloft by a number of tugs. There will be an electric winch present as well.

If you have anything resembling a glider bring it up. Electric gliders OK but priority will be given to tow operations for safety.

There will also be a few new wings present. I will have one of the newest European sensations - a 4 meter scale powered Paraglider to show off.

Cheers
Dean

Re: Togg - Thompson /\Okanagan Glider group

Hey Dean, I really enjoyed the hi-country event. It was cold and miserable the Friday we were there but the pilots and you and Dave put on a very nice show. I know there are a lot of sailplanes of every size hidden in the valley collecting dust in someone's shop corner. The up and coming weekend in vernon at lesters field is all the buzz. I hope you have a great turn out and inspire lots...

Re: Togg - Thompson /\Okanagan Glider group

Just a heads up that the High Country Flyers located near Logan Lake B.C. just off of the Coquihalla Hwy, will be having an aerotow weekend May 20, 21, 22. We will have a number of tugs present to haul up small - large gliders. Come on out and check out what is one of the fastest growing segments of R.C.

Re: Togg - Thompson /\Okanagan Glider group

Thank you. Just got back from an aerotowing event in Mission during which time a number of us discussed plans to hold an event in the interior. So stay tuned .....a dedicated aerotowing weekend will be in the works for 2016.

Cheers
