Re: MAAC Question???

Another point. Not having club dues as well as MAAC, why should a person fly at the field for free where everyone else has to pay their way for the privelage of using the field.

yes flying at joe farmers field with out maac there are some risks but it happens every day ! life is full of risks

dont get me started on the utube clips but that being said there is guys that hop on there croch rockets and do stupid stuff i see it every day

another thing that i will point out is that alot of guys that have ultra light aircraft fly
non isured ! now what do you think would happen if one of them crashed in to somthing ?

but to sum it up maac is something you should have but by law you dont need to have
the crotch rocket is a great example...when you see a guy riding like an idiot, you think "those guys are all crazy" and that's not a sterio type we need for model pilots.

and yes...I had a couple crotch rockets...

At our flying site it ia a MAAC sanctioned field, and it is on land rented by our club, MAAC (or AMA) is required. Period. flying without MAAC at our field puts our club and it's executives at risk in the event of an accident.
As an exec in our club, I do not look forward to explaning to someone why there was an accident at our club causing damage or injury even if the are covered by maac, and if they are not covered, that their only option is to sue.

flying at joe the farmers field without maac on a non maac site only puts you at risk. but the potential damage to all of us lies in the bad press a non isured pilot could cause if someone were to get hurt.
there is the trend to "tar us all with the same brush" when somone does somthing stupid with a radoi controled aircraft, even if it is a guy flying on his own at a non sanctioned site.

We have all seen the utube vidios of guys doing stupid things with models and read the comments that follow, so it is in out best interest to keep safety a priority.

ok...asbestos underwear is on...flame away

Flying at a MAAC sanctioned field without MAAC puts the entire club at risk. When I was president of a club, I recall one of the stipulations on the agreement with the field owner was that we would provide our own insurance and the owner was adamant that this be strictly adhered to. Ultimately the owner is responsible for activities on their property and he was concerned for this exposure. I don't blame him and respect his concerns/liability. If I catch someone without insurance, I'd calmy explain this same situation to them and, if they beligerently insisted on continuing to fly I would warn them that they're leaving me no other choice but to place a call to police and charge them with trespassing should they continue.

This is a VERY uncomfortable position to be in and, I've heard others claim they would place the call anonymously but, I feel that's very unfair given that the violater may not understand the risk they represent is not just to themselves.... Fair warning ... then call is my motto.
I totally agree with you, would you let someone do something unlawfull on your property?

Re: MAAC Question???

If a lease agreement exists between the gov't & the lessor it's usually treated as private property in Alberta. Some agricultural land also falls under a different act where you're required to notify the lease holder that you are accessing the crown property. The lease holder in that case may, at his discretion deny access for reasons of safety & security.

Property rights are under provincial jurisdiction and therefore laws will vary provincially.
