Thanks Eric.. I waited for a nice day with an " EAST " wind... me and those trees and hydro wire don't get along so well..

The Habu did her maiden today in burlington.. first flight was about 2 minutes of pure terror.. then once trimmed out... the second flight was great.. landings not so good.. but on the second flight she could cruise at half throttle with ease..

Glad you got things sorted out. Obstructions to the intake can have a large effect as you have found out. We were losing 1/3 of available thrust in our HTG Mig15 when the ESC was mounted too close to the EDF shroud, disturbing the airflow. We gained 1kg thrust by simply moving it farther forward from its original position!

On a fresh charged battery it hit a maximum of 42oz of thrust and then settled back to 40oz

This is the best thrust I have seen in the air frame so far.. as good as the testing in my test stand.. so no loss of thrust from test stand to air frame.. matter of fact it improved slightly from 39 in the test stand to 40 in the airframe

The extra work to clean things up inside paid off.

So this is my habu.. hopefully ready to fly..
Cool looking Habu, should definitely stand out.

As far as the thrust, I think that's around what you get with the stock E-flite fan and motor so it should fly fine, I believe stock speed is ~85mph at full throttle.

Very nice, mine hit 115mph with a TamJets EDF on 6s

Ok... well found part of the problem.. just tore through the plane again.. cleaned up a few things.. rechecked.. and then for some reason.. I started looking at the scales..

So if anyone ever see's a U-tube vid like I did with someone mounting the scales on the side...

DON'T BELIEVE IT !!!!!

They are not accurate.. but then again.. they where never expected to work on their side..

DUH !!!!

Re: new to edf

Here is a pic of my balance in action.. tried a few more setups.. and no matter what I changed.. the thrust did not improve.. in most cases it got worse. tried a 3400 kv with a 4 blade.. 25oz 10 blade 15oz suggest prop stall yet 5 blade gives 32oz of thrust.. the data would suggest prop stall.. but going to a 4 blade vers 5 blade on the same motor with the same amps and watts did worse..

The data and test have been inconclusive

It would seem that for this airframe.. the best thrust that can be gotten is with a 3400kv motor with a 5 blade fan.. at 32oz of thrust...

and just in case you are wondering.. but NO the points are not both touching the magnets.. there is about a 1/32 gap at the one end.. I found that if you let the heavy end holding the fan is touching the magnet.. the balancer is more sensitive.. seems to be more drag if you let it touch at the light end..

just my observations while testing..
