Re: Bill Hempell 100cc Sorell SN-7 HiperBipe Build Thread It weighs 48 lbs but handles it very well. It will not 3D but feels light in the air. Knife-edges are effortless. The wing loading is 31 oz/sqft. I may take it to Kitchener in September. Maybe see you there. |

Re: Bill Hempell 100cc Sorell SN-7 HiperBipe Build Thread John, Very nice! 105" WOW the Hemple is only 86" and I have a DA100L in it. Do you know what your weight is? Unfortunately I will be hosting the MAAAC Scale Aerobatic NATS in Cayuga that same weekend. Would have been fun to get these two birds together in the same place! |

Although the rudder looks small it is very effective. This thing knife edges with no problem. Yes you NEED to turn this aircraft with Aileron & Rudder or it does some wonky things. It will skid around 180 degrees if you try and throw full rudder at anything above half throttle. |

Re: Bill Hempell 100cc Sorell SN-7 HiperBipe Build Thread Yesterday I watched Jim Allen's custom designed and built Hyperbipe with a DLE 111 fly at the 400 Club. It flew great and certainly has a unique look to it when flying vertical and you can see the whole tail. A most unusual airplane to watch. |

I agree wrt your assessment of the elevators' likely effectiveness, my low rate throw is on the order of 10° presently and I think high rate is less than 20. Aileron deflection? I'll just have to TLAR that I think. My expo rates are set up to be a tad mushy around center on high rate. Otherwise I try to follow the rule of "fly what you need, not whatcha got." The twin DLE on the front end fits into that rule as well. Our flying field is at 6,800 ft. MSL and it's impossible to have too much power. Besides, I need(ed) the weight on the front end. If you have any experience or insights to share regarding the use of rudder for coordinated turns that would be helpful as well. Otherwise, like you, I've got other irons in the fire but I'm eagerly awaiting a chance to take the beast out for its first flight. Cheers. MDW |

Sorry just saw this now. Don't know if you already have done your maiden or not. I don't remember what the control throws are. We flew it at Joe Nall last year then I was out with it one other time and smacked her in on landing last summer and still not finished the repairs so it is not flying. I cut down my elevators to a more scale size yet they are still very effective even on low rate which I have setup around 12° I think. I'm flying a JETI radio now and the HB is setup on my JR9503. It's at home but tonight I'll check to see what expo I have setup for everything. The DLE111 will be overkill. This thing is so light I bet a DA70 would fly it but probably not enough nose weight. LOL! Hope to have it back into flying condition by the Fall. Very busy summer what with cottage repairs and preparing for the IMAC Worlds this Fall in Muncie IN. |
