The DA100L is the benchmark of motors IMO - consistent and strong and reliable . . . But this ZDZ90 on the RE3 definitely gives the plane a lighter feel than a mufflered DA100L (since I've run the 100L on this exact airframe) and with the needles tweaked and off break-in oil, its as smooth as a 100L, stronger than a 100L on mufflers or cans and definitely as quiet!! I don't think it's as strong as a DA100L on RE2's, but also 1/2 the cost and waay lighter!!! T |

Trev, Do you really think that is a fair statement? Have you run a DA100L on RE2 pipes yet? I can understand you may be excited about a new engine but is it really necessary to dish a truely AWSOME engine. You might recall that engine you now consider as crappy had no problem hauling around that lead slead 33.5 lbs Aerotech Yak 54 you built, (on standard mufflers & a 3 blade no less)..... Once upon a time in Mississauga. |

Re: BBT 2.6m CompArf Yak55 / Back to a MOKI 150 Now Build Thread Should work fine, Rick!! I set my CG completely neutral in horizontal flight so it's hands off in any orientation... for most that's a hint tail-heavy but I find that gets me the best trade off for fast flight and 3D. On the CompARF Yak, with ZDZ90 on pipes, the batteries are mounted to the motor standoff and it's a hint nose heavy (tough to tell in that crazy wind, LOL). I took the spinner off and still would drop a bit while inverted. I'll likely pick up a nice Tru-Turn spinner for this combo at Toledo and a get rid of the 4200mAH LiIon ignition pack to move the CG back a hair and make it even lighter than it already is T |

Oh.. Minor issue, LOL!! . . . Winds were 30kph, gusting to 48kph, but even still, the plane was a HOOT to fly!!! |

Rick!! Actually, I'm out at the field right now and just maidened the CompARF Yak / ZDZ90 / RE3 / Menz28x10 combo and logged 7 flights!! All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had such an amazing combo in a long time!! CG came out perfect, 0 vibrations (and I'm not joking!), super quiet and performance that no DA100L could touch!!!!!!!!! Totally in love with this combo!! I was alone, so no videos, but soon I'm sure!!!!! Trev |
