It's nice for Death Spirals, Tail Slides, Stall Turns, Knife Edge Drops and Auto's.
We're not talking about a click or clunk, just a tiny nick similar to original ratchet but only one click and less sticky.

Piro-flips is where I figure this could help with collective control as a good part of the move is at 0 pitch. If all you do or your skill will allow is hover or fly around than this would be of little use.

Don im quite fine with your opinion and the idea behind the thread was to have a good quality debate on if this might be a useful mod that could help out other rc pilots!

I do not have a notch in my transmitter and do not plan on carving one into it either.

I thought i would share this with everyone as it was something i had definately never heard of!

When i first got into this hobby im sure i would have definately tried this mod then!

But now with this being the beginning of my 3rd season i do not really think it is necessary for me!

Cheers Keith

It may seem like a good idea but I don't think it will serve the purpose. Centre stick is a relative state, not a fixed point you reference while flying. You are never at centre stick when hovering upright or inverted so having a notch (magnetic or otherwise) will not aide you learning tricks. Flying is what will do the job, not a gimmick. That's my opinion and I don't think it will change anytime soon. Sorry Gimpy, although you find it useful, I don't.

The best method is muscle memory but I bet he has not been at it that long. If he has, I'll bet he flys on his own and not at al club, as any club member would have told him why we don't do it. Take care.

Don the point of the mod was to give someone new or even experienced a way to know when they are at center stick!

I have not done this MOD to my transmitter! Just to set the record straight i have no issues flying my helicopters and yes i do fly at a sanctioned club!

Now here is a video of the guy that does this mod to his transmitter!

As you will see Gregg definately knows how to fly and his reasoning behind the mod was it didnt lock in the collective to center stick, it would just give a small bit of resistance at center!

From the looks of his flights it definately seems to be working for him!

Im not saying this is the best idea or the worst! Like i said i thought i would share it with everyone as someone might actually find it very useful.

+1
A much easier approach is to sand smooth the cam/slider then file one "notch" where the ratchet contacts at center stick.
Easy to undo if you wish by sanding smooth again.
The notch doesn't have to be enough to catch the gimbal, just a little bump for reference.

I did this on my radio due to limited tactile feel in my hands, helps me a lot.
Don't listen to the Macho remarks you'll get. If it works for you that's what matters.

Not bashing but that seems overly complicated when a simple indent works just as well.....
