Re: Sig Wonder

Thanks Merv!

I'm going to print out your information and attach it to the set of plans I have. I just spent the night sorting through the balsa that I picked up at the auction.... I've got lots of building to do!!

Re: Sig Wonder

The motor is A Rimfire 35-30-950kV, max 296 watts, 20 amps, 14.8 volts

Speed control is a Hobby King HK-HW30A ESC

Batteries are 3 cell 1300mAh Turnigy and hobbyzone

Prop is aero=naut CAM 10 x 7 folder

Servos are Hitec HS82MG

All up weight is 27.5 oz

Peak stats on a fresh battery: 180 watts, 13.8 amps, 11.4 volts
Settles in at 120 watts, 10.7 amps, 11.1 volts for the majority of the run
Performance is very lively, better than Stardustertoo's with a .15 glow.

Hobby king ESC brake is not up to the task, does'nt stop the prop just slows it down. I would go with a better ESC next time. I picked the motor & ESC up used.

As you can see by the motor specs I am not using this motor to it's max, more power is available with more cells and a better speed controller. I am getting a good 10+ minute run with this set up without the low voltage on the speed controller cutting in and the motor and battery is just warm to the touch.

Anything more I can add just ask and I will try to answer. Merv

Re: Sig Wonder

so Merv, what is your setup? I like to install turn-key setups since I don't know enough about electric motors and I hate screwing around with unproven motor/esc/battery/prop combination!

I found a set of plans for the Wonder in a box of balsa wood that I bought at the Olds auction a few weeks ago and I might just have to build one this winter...

Re: Sig Wonder

Thanks for the pictures!

It certainly does look quick and easy to build. I would be adding a contrasting color or two for my old eyes though.

About 200 watts for power?

Re: Sig Wonder

Sometimes the problem is that the pictures are too good a quality, the file is too large. They need to be dumbed down to fit the site. Not sure what picture program you have there but there usually is a way to down size them. I'm no whiz kid at this stuff either!
