Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places Ya obviously it's more of a guideline. The e-flight "rare bear" is small but does around 100mph so not suitible for parks. My PA KMX is just over 3lbs but can fly very slow & we don't consider it an issue to fly at our club. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places There is no standard definition for park flyer in Canada. Clubs set their own rules. MAAC says a park flyer "can be any type of model flown in a public park," and the Park Flyer portion of the safety code applies only to small, light-weight and slow-moving aircraft. AMA says 2 lbs and 60 mph, with electric, rubber or other quiet means of propulsion. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places Could be wrong but thought that park flyers were under 2 lbs and are to exhibit slow flight. Saw a fast foamie this spring traveling around 125 plus mph and that was not a park flyer. Weight was around 2.5 lbs or under if I remember correctly. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places Yes it's too bad, if more guys were into the bigger models there would be a need to make a deal with one of the farm owners for a designated place. I flew at the Kalum site once but I didn't like that site, approaches were not great, runway was rough, and too much forest & a huge river valley to loose a plane in. Not very relaxing when you have $3-4000 in the air. Of the 2 main guys that started the Terrace/Kitimat club, one moved & the other got into Guns & shooting, was also moving...but is still here & got re-enthused at the Houston fun fly, so he wants to help me get something going at my Cousins place. If you come up & can drag some Kitimat guys out to fly that would be good, let me know I'll make the drive if I'm not at work. Otherwise see you down there, I'll be joining the Kelowna & Vernon Clubs, just waiting to sell our house here. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places We had a awsome club in Terrace when I was there but it seemed to just go down hill after I left.I see the guys are now flying at the Kitimat airport.Will have to check on the guys when I go to visit.aAnyway keep flying .And yes the move to the Okanagon was worth it for the sunshine and the flying club here. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places Yes you are correct, common sense has to come into play  I had a 70mm edf that was under 3lbs but I would not have tried flying it at our feild. Terrace does have some large fields in town, & some very large farm fields. My Cousins field is farmland that used to have a full size airstrip & was used by the model club years ago. Unfortunately there is no real "club" in Terrace. Most guys are only into the electric park flyers. We have a Terrace-Kitimat club, but again only couple guys from Kitimat come out when I make the trip up. Our club in Prince Rupert consists of 3 active members, we can't fly anything big there and half the time I end up flying on my own. Actually it's a big part of the reason that I'm moving to the Okanagan, lot's of active clubs, events, & much better weather

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places I have a 3 pound 63" span Eflight .15 powered trainer that I would not consider suitable for parks or school yards. Even an electric glider at 1/2 that weight would be very questionable in my opinion. Unless it is quite a large area, the standard stand alone elementary school playground out here would only accommodate small foamy park fliers. The same goes for neighborhood mall parking lots and green space parks. Sports complexes and large malls sometimes have enough room for the medium sized birds but are often too busy except for very early in the morning. The size of the space vs the speed of the aircraft is what needs to be in balance perhaps more that just the weight. |

Re: Size of RC Training Planes flown in public places To clairify "park flyer" size Don, it's an electric model 3 pounds or less. Our feild in PR is MAAC sanctioned & also a school feild, we use the the 3lb or less rule but have made an exception for heli's over 3lbs. -Channing- |

The Kitimat air park is a great place but it is a 30min drive, 2 hours for me now that I live in PR. The best feild is my Cousins out in thornhill, & we may get something going there for the club, I'll let you know Don. -Channing- |
