flew around the field four laps after trimming it out, so I was getting use to the plane and I was getting comfortable so I was starting to make passes over the runway and trying to find that right speed for landing... well I guess I could of went a little slower but I didn't it was coming in hot.. I got it on the ground and I saw it was headed toward the the side of the runway so I input some rudder to keep it on the runway and it cartwheeled on me...that striped a servo other than that all good.. but man it was fast...
Glad to hear it lives to fly another day.

Re: My First Build (Great Planes Ultimate)

nice finish to the ultimate, I agree with the wheel pants, they do lack durability, mine are cracking already after 3 flights. I did a couple of things not on the plans. Used blind nuts for the bottom wing mount, made servo tray removable. Left the canbane inside, used a bit of CA after they were tightened. Also the cowl, I am glad I followed the recommendation of using fiberglass on the seam inside.
Put a saito 72 in also went with a 90 oz servo for the airelons.

Here is how it turned out. don't let the blue fool ya, it is actually pearl purple, not sure why the digital camera dosen't like purple??

If I see it tight against the side of the fuse and it has no play then i have no worries, but if the cage was on the inside like the plans state then I would always be unsure or trying to tighten them up all the time.
as for the other Question I just wanted to put the servo's on the back of the fuse so the push rods would be shorter and stronger so there would be no flexing in the push rods.. but as for the CG. I did put it on the balancer today and found that I only have to add 3/4 of an oz. to the nose or just move my battery...

But thanks for asking... I may not be right but like I said, Its my first build.
Thanks Rob. On the cabane, I'm going to put mine inside, but using locknuts so they don't come loose.

I never considered putting the servos outside. I'm using the stock tray, in the stock location. Hopefully, it will balance OK. I'm using an OS 55ax for mine, so weight wise, our planes should be pretty close. I am going to use a Bisson muffler though, and they do weigh a bit less than the stock OS muffler.

The airplane looks great by the way, hope the maiden goes well.

Take care, Daren
