The petroleum based flux is a translucent light yellow/green colour, and could easily be mistaken for Vaseline or Vicks Vaporub. You said yours was white and creamy. Can't be petroleum based. Maybe someone switched lids.

Thats the good stuff as far as I know ?

Petroleum = toxic = actually works

water based = enviro safe = does not do !$@@

Dwayne, I just checked out the field - sopping wet, and the soldering pastes in Candian Tire and I bet you got the water soluble paste. Right beside it on the shelf is the petroleum based acid flux everyone is used to. Cans are identical except for writing. I didn't want to spend $8.00 or more - even in Cdn. Tire money to try this stuff when I have a pint of the old stuff to use. Perhaps the water based stuff is only good on copper. My only recommendation at this point is to buy a can of petroleum based flux - under $5.00.

Yes, neither did I. Got a plane and spad-combat ready for today and checked out the field. If I can remember today I will.

thank you.i will try a plumbing wholesale for the acid flux because the cream crap ain't working
