Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx I think that they plastic threads keep stripping, so i want to bond the rods and rod ends together, and i kight try the cable idea if i can find an adhesive, and if not ill contact traxxas and see if they have warranty on their parts |

Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx "Loctite" is a brand name for a full line of adhesives with various characteristics for various applications. Question: are you looking for an adhesive for use between the metal ball insert and the plastic rod end or between the shock shaft and the plastic rod end? The whole idea of the metal ball insert in the plastic end is that it is free to move a bit to account for the change in angle between the shock and its mounting point on the vehicle as it travels through its (shocks) range of movement. So using any adhesive there would be counterproductive. The shock shaft threading is what holds the plastic rod end on. So if the two are becoming separated, either the two parts are unthreading or the shaft is (or has been) pulled out of the end. Unthreading is not very common in my opinion but if that is what you are seeing then I suggest that the plastic rod end is threading is probably worn and loose....time to toss the plastic rod end. If you really feel that you need an adhesive to stop unthreading then you need to use something suitable between the two materials. If the shock shaft has pulled out or is pulling out of the rod end, this could be caused by over travel of the wheel and arm at the hub end. A good example would be the HPI Baja application. You can buy an aftermarket cable that attaches to the arm and shock tower to limit the wheel travel before the shock gets pulled apart. This is another case of time to toss the plastic rod end. If the force is large enough to separate the parts without an adhesive present then adding adhesive will not help the situation. Earl "Narly1" Anderson |

Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx No worries. if it were me I would try the washer trick first, it's a cheap fix. Maybe you got a bad batch of rod ends. I kind of see the all metal rod ends as kind of a waste of money. They are expensive, and once they wear out they're shot. Unless you lube them from time to time you will have a metal on metal joint that can wear and stick in all kinds of wierd ways....but that's only my opinion. Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx The part that confuses me is that they are 2 days old, i keep putting new rod ends on because i kept thinking they were stripped, and yes they are in the most upright position i can go, they pop off even with a 1ft jump, and i think i might go with aluminum rod ends because the rods a titanium so i doubt that they will bend |

Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx If the rod end threads were stripped the rod end would pull off of the shock shaft, which has nothing to do with the metal insert pulling out. The plastic end of the rod end will eventually loosen due to dirt & dust getting in between it and the metal insert...like sandpaper. Also each time the metal insert pops out the plastic deforms and loosens a little bit more. A trick I've used is to warm up the plastic part in warm water to make it easier to install the metal insert. I would also expect that this causes less trauma to be inflicted on the plastic when you pop the insert in. There is also the option of all metal rod ends, but you might start to see broken shock shafts. Is the shock at some kind of odd angle that is forcing the end off? Maybe you need to correct the top mounting position so that the shock is moving in a pure up and down direction? Earl "Narly1" Anderson |

Re: Traxxas big bore rod ends emaxx By coming apart do you mean that the metal insert is popping out of the plastic rod end? If so you could try capturing the insert by adding a flat washer to whatever you are using for a fastener through the rod end. Earl "Narly1" Anderson |
