Re: What Would You Do

Flying Field Etiquette

Model Airplane News has an interesting topic about Flying Field Etiquette. There are some very to the point comments in the section where comments can be added. One of the most important is COMMUNICATION.

This sums it up pretty much from Bill.

"It’s pretty simple.

Fly safely, communicate your intentions with the other pilots, be courteous, use good sense.
If your flying style or aircraft conflicts with others, take turns."

Right ON Bill

This isn't rocket science, basic safety and airmanship. We have a designated person daily, who's responsible for opening the field, manning the radio on the control zone freq, and they are also the safety/ops boss of the day. Any drop-ins or newcomers are given a tour, explained the rules. If anyone seems to be "struggling" with the rules, they are given a refresher. If they don't like the rules, they are more than welcome to fly elsewhere. The result, we have a club where everyone gets along, we all have a great time, and we manage to fly everything from tiny electrics all the way to large jet turbines, with no issues.

If a club isn't willing to lay down a set of clear and concise rules, and then enforce the rules, fairly and equitably, you'll have nothing but problems.
I could not agree more.

Re: What Would You Do

need to hear the other side of the story. Perhaps the rules not well communicated, or the guy does not fully grasp the different rules for big heavy fast planes and slow 3D planes at your field.

Of course there are many foamies that will outrun your '100mph' plane. Even some 1 lb racing miniquads that will do that. 3D planes - obviously gotta fly in separate space somehow, just as you say, they are not doing the pattern and hard to fly around. Actually each different sub genre of RC flying (3D, racers, heli, FPV, sailplanes, UAV, micro, scale) can have completely different field configuration and special needs. Can be hard for clubs to hash this all out, and hard for everyone to understand the needs of others.

First I wouldn't post this on RCC, you just looking for sympathy. Suck it up and fly the best you can and try your best to stay out of this guy's way. You are the one with a 1000 mph airplane so easily done. Don't be a bully, everyone has has a right to right fly and we have to respect that.

It's a problem and I think it will get worse. We had a person that broke rules at will so he was barred and he moved on, and on and on. All the clubs were a___ h____ because he was kicked out of three more clubs in short order, then word spread and he disappeared into nowhere.

I checked one of those foamy's last year. The prop was 7" and about the same shape as a steak knife. I tached it at 16,800 RPM. It is not a thing to be careless with

Whatever you tolerate will try to dominate.

He should be confronted on his 'bully' and 'immature' manors.

It is a hobby to relax and enjoy....no room for his actions.
