Re: Fixed Wing Air Frame to Carry dSLR?

Thanks for the help everyone, I think I'm going to go with a Heptad or Super Solution for the 1st go. I'm leaning towards the Heptad for a video platform since I haven't scratched a plane for just over 30 years and video cameras can be had cheap. dSLR's, meh not so much

This guy has very nice machines for slow, low wind situations, simple, and has used sizable cameras.

Here is a sample of his build thread, he has many, and there is a company that cuts foam short kits of his designs, they are in these treads.

There are lots of ideas in aerial photography threads in rc groups.

There is always, Hobby Lobby Telemaster, the old standby that can carry a ton.

Hi Russ,

You would certainly need a better camera for high quality images.

Here is a link to a site that has all kinds of different information for RC applications, it may have some helpful information for you - scroll down to "Photography ..." and take a look.

Hope it helps.

Re: Fixed Wing Air Frame to Carry dSLR?

Thanks Wayne, I'm already on the A/V path but I'm really looking for a decent A/P platform. I suppose I could rig something up for the Super Cub & an A490 or the likes as that camera is only about 4 or 5 oz. I was more interesting in boosting the image quality and that IMHO is pretty tough to do with such a small sensor & lens. FWIW, I am looking for a winter build project too, and I thought it would be great to meld 2 interests together & get some cross justification / satisfaction. (landscape photography & flying)

Hi,

I would suggest you may want to try a small camera just to play around with first.

You can get Key chain cameras or mini cameras from Hobby king for well under $25.00 - just go to their site and search for "camera". They can be easily attached to a plane with velcro or be mounted on foam - they weight very little.

In the meantime, there is a post here somewhere that shows a video from a keychain camera purchased from E-Bay for $9.95, I'll see if I can find it and post the link. They can also take single pictures (snapshots) as well if you want to hook up a servo to activate the single shots.

Here is the link to the video:

Well that's kinda why I wanna use my XT, Crash my 7D oth, well that would be devastating. Kill the XT and that's an excuse for an upgrade to a T1i or a T2i

Russ,

There is a guy who does REALLY nice aerial photography with an SLR on an RC airplane (electric). Here's his website:

www.tangojulietphotography.com
[edit: His website doesn't seem to work anymore. But trust me, he has some good aerial photos]

Here is Tango_Juliet's comments on what he uses to take those shots:
