Re: Winter Flying

Coming out tomorrow to visit. If you're around for the weekend, you should try to hitch a ride with me to Lake of the Woods (Ontario - 2hr drive from Winnipeg) to fly on the frozen lake with Jimmy P.

Okay, managed to squeeze a couple more batteries in before it turns arctic in a few days:

Re: Winter Flying

Okay, finally got some winter flying on the go. It was a balmy 1 degree in Portage today so I took the 250 outside for a burn!

Re: Winter Flying

Well, I made progress on the 3D Plus but it's still not finished. I'll update my build thread on completion.

On a similar note, I did manage to get in a short flight this evening ... on a whim I quickly ran outside with my 500 and lifted off from the driveway (I'm in the country so I just fly right from my driveway ... ) .... flying that close to darkness is not advised. LOL! I almost lost orientation at one point ... that's when I called it a flight and brought her home safe and sound.

An odd thing though, all my settings were haywire in my DX6i - I'm going to have to go through all of them before I go inverted on this bird again. My swash direction was reversed for the pitch and all my curves had to be reprogrammed. I just fudged them because it was getting late fast and I wasn't planning to do anything more than a few relaxed circuits.

Re: Winter Flying

Working on it tonight ... I'm hoping I'll have it finished by the weekend, but I'm taking my son snowboarding on Fri, Sat, Sun since it was too cold last weekend. If I get it finished before then, and my kid wants to come home on Saturday evening, I'll make arrangements to get out there and meet you.

If not, I suspect we'll have plenty of warm days coming up shortly.

.....

Brian, I'm trying to break away and get to Portage tomorrow. I'll do my best but it might not happen ... all of a sudden, I'm busier than a one-legged man in an arse kicking contest.

Re: Winter Flying

LOL ... that's about the only suitable place to fly in this weather. Supposed to warm up mid-week.

Re: Winter Flying

LOL... I don't know about that. We got 10-15cm of snow (and I'm sure Brian saw more than that where he's staying right now) on Friday. Then it turned COLD ... and not just cold, but FREEZE A POLAR BEARS TESTES OFF cold.

-38C with the windchill... ugh.

It's supposed to warm up on Wednesday. If it's nice out, I'll charge up a couple of packs, throw my Atom 500 FBL in the car, and make a trip out to see Brian for a few flights hopefully.

If not... maybe I'll check the calendar and see if there's an indoor fly this week I can take him to at the Golf Dome here in Winnipeg.
