I haven't bought anything 'new' in the turbine market for a number of years, the depreciation rate on both engines and airframes is brutal, especially if you calculate depreciation of engine by the 'per hour' or 'per flight' cost!.

Yes , partly agree on that Gary but on the other hand if not built up to snuff ; could be a big problem if something comes unglued at a low, high speed pass. I myself am pretty fussy when it comes to builds. if you know the builder and quality of build, it helps

William, I might think the new car purchase comparison would work, if you don't include the time, labour and skill often involved in building half or more yourself.

The most unfortunate imbalance is often the fact only the direct cost of the assembled craft or bits are considered. Rarely does experience, skill level or investment of time add to the price.

Gotta watch with Turbines though cause it can get pretty expensive if you have to start replacing turbine parts and fuel pumps if they crap out shortly after purchase. You can burn up $500-600 in parts and service pretty quick so the buying price has to be good; 50-50 crap shoot !
Buying new or newer used ; you get the latest technology and benefits in the package.

And if the second user wants to make changes to original install then money out pocket.... ie, change retracts from air to electric or vs. versa, wants different brand of servos or whatever other changes.

It' s like buying a new car as soon as you leave the dealership you all ready lost 2 grand. Oh well that's life, I guess.

The businesses that deal using USD don't have to take chances on currency fluctuations , as Paul says pretty much everything comes via the US. Altecare, AMR , RCToys ala Dragon RC
And could be a few others in Canada that list currency on USD.
