Re: Grifter F3J

Congrats, yes those freewheeling props are annoying. I was able to aero-tow my fixed up 3.6m DG 505 several times today with Mike which were his first tows as tug pilot.

Re: Grifter F3J

I finished the Grifter this morning and it had its maiden flight this evening. Flew beutifully and climbed well even at low power settings. Only a couple of snags, I need to enable the brake on the ESC, the outer wing panels will need to be taped as they moved out a small amount during the first flight.

I'll let you know Lorne. I did a bit of work today and managed to get the new beefier engine mount glued in and the nose glued in place.

Once that epoxy cures I will start on the servo and battery tray. Not much left to do after that.

...let me know when you maiden the Grifter (it's Lorne, the guy who sold it to you). I have a real soft spot for planes that I never got around to build ...glad to see you are getting her ready for the new season.

Re: Grifter F3J

Excellent, I have the yellow one now from zaphod, on the picture on this page.
It needs some tlc, but is in good shape. I am designing removable power pod, I want to leave it F3J, pure glider. I have plenty of e-gliders already. Do not want super power either, just enough to get it up there. It is surprising how little power you need to get gliders to altitude. So many projects to finish and the summer is coming fast!!

Re: Grifter F3J

I haven't got any pictures of it yet but progress has been made. The motor is going to be mounted on the nose and the slide on nose is going to be glued in place with a hatch on the top to access the internals.

Battery will be on a tray and will be movable to adjust CG. Rudder and elevator servos will be in a line beside the battery.

I designed the motor mount in cad and had it laser cut out of plywood but the plywood I used was a bit soft so I found some harder plywood and have laminated it on both sides with canoe seam tape and MAS epoxy. I'll probably get the new motor mount cut in the next week or so and then it will be time to fit everything up.

Re: Grifter F3J

Helno did you ever finish this Grifter? Any pictures? It looks like I will own one of these by the weekend myself, always wanted a 3 meter, but I am looking at removable power pod if the bungee is not available, never tried a winch or know how. How did you build in the motor with that slide-on nose

Re: Grifter F3J

That is a Stevens Aero adrenaline rush. Its more of a pylon plane than a glider. Goes pretty quick for a plane of its size.

Re: Grifter F3J

I got around to wiring the wing and installing the aileron servos. Still designing the motor mount and battery tray.

There are a few pictures up here.
