Re: Plans built 1/5th OV-10 Bronco

Lots of work going on, I'm still doing the last bits of sanding/filling on the Bronco fuse, and working on the tail booms. Today, drilled the holes in the engine nacelles and booms so I could attach them, and ensure good alignment, and get going on closing in the booms, installing wiring, hinges, etc, and getting the vertical stab closed in as well. So far, knock on wood, things are going well.

Right half of the Bronco wing, glassed. Next step is sheeting the left nacelle, a light sanding, and then glassing it. Once that is done, I'll flip it over, finish the servo installations, and prep the undersides for glassing.

Ran all the wiring tonight for the servos on one wing, plus the retracts, a pile of wires. two flap servos, one aileron, gear, and throttle. Managed to get the wing sheeting done, and leading edge sanded on the right side, so glassed the top right side as well. I'll post pics tomorrow, busy night.

Re: Plans built 1/5th OV-10 Bronco

Haven't posted a lot of pics, mostly doing sanding and filling on the fuselage. I've started the basic interior work, including framing up one of the seats. Foam will be covered in fabric, that leeann will sew out of old army combats, just the right colour of green. Each seat requires a ton of detail, but it's fun. I've got tons of photos, as well as a couple of 1/12th scale period cockpits in plastic, an F-104 starfighter, so that gives me a good look at all the little bits.

Re: Plans built 1/5th OV-10 Bronco

Obviously, with this Bronco, there's a huge amount of visible interior. Thus, a whole lot of detailing is required! One way is to purchase a larger scale plastic model for reference, and Kittyhawk has a super detailed 1/32 scale OV-10D. But, they're about $100, a lot to spend just to stare at. Fortunately, model builders love to show off their projects, and there's lots of reviews, as well as tons of photo documentation of the real deal on the internet. So, my laptop is set up in the workshop, and I can view dozens of images of the cockpit, while I work on the details. Tonight, I installed the back plate for the instrument panel, the left pilots console, and the throttle/mix quadrant. That last bit alone was 8 seperate pieces, and took an hour to make. It still needs the control levers, and a whole lot more detail! Tomorrow, I'll cut out a pile of parts I'll need to start building the ejection seats. It will probably be a couple of weeks just to get all the major boxes, bits and pieces created, and then I'll need to start all the painting and detailing. I have some 1/5th scale instruments, switches, radio panels etc, but will need to get a pile more.

Absolutely. The Hurricane project really stretched my skills to the max, and gave me a lot more confidence in building from scratch.

Looks like you took some lessons from the 1:1 Hurricane canopy and applied them to this model

Inside framework done for the pilot's window, and in very short order got the windshield center piece done, and the left side. Went surprisingly quick!

Re: Plans built 1/5th OV-10 Bronco

Seems to be the truth, while it won't be 100% exact, it's pretty damned close. The top portion will be interesting, and might need to make a mold for that, and heat form the plastic, but the rest is fine.

Well done, sir. Who needs a vacuum formed canopy now??
