Re: Can DX7 radio use Lipo? I haven't really counted how many flight I get before I have to charge my radio. I'm thinking 20 flight at least. I charged it twice all summer. |

Re: Can DX7 radio use Lipo? I went to a local computer repair store and bought 5-AA 2000mah eneloop batteries and made my own pack. They are NiMh. Great batteries and hold 96% of their charge for 2 years or something like that if you store them. Best option I found after trying many types. |

DX7s comes with a NiMH battery out of the box, or at least they do when I order from HH, and according to HH website as well |

Re: Can DX7 radio use Lipo? It is recommended that you DO NOT use a LiPo in a DX7. The voltage is too high for the radio. Apparently the DX7 power transistors burn out over time, reducing your radio range (over time) If you must use a LiPo in a DX-7, then you need to use a diode in the circuit to drop the voltage down a bit. But why Lipo? Just get a 3S LiFe battery- They make them to fit in the existing battery bay with no modifications. It runs on lower voltage so you dont have to change any battery alarm parameters on yoiur radio. I have been using one in my DX7 and other radios for 2 years now and I love it. Fast charges in 15 minutes and runs for weeks. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...4_TX_Pack.html |

Re: Can DX7 radio use Lipo? I think maybe I can clarify a bit. You asked if you can use a LiPo in a DX7 and you plan to buy it from Rotorquest. Your local shop is right in saying a LiPo is not recommended in a DX7, but many people myself included were using a LiPo for many years without issue. The problem is that a fully charged LiPo is 12.6V and the radio was designed for 12v max, or nominally with a nicad Nimh pack at 9.6v. So I usually charged to about 12 volts to take it easy on the electronics. Here's the bigger eye opener for you though. Since you mentioned you plan to buy it from rotorquest, I think what you meant to say is that you want to buy a "DX7 S" The original DX7 is not sold any longer and has been replaced by a totally different radio, the DX7S I loved my old DX7, manufactured by JR for Spektrum with great quality and durability. The new DX7S comes with LiPo out of the box so you don't need to do anything. It is manufactured by Spektrum on their own now since they split with JR as a partner. IF you can pony up a few more dollars.....get the DX9, I love it so far. |
