The highjacking would be my fault I have a knack for it. Someday I'll adopt socially acceptable behavior.

This tech is fantastic and enables many newbees to join this hobby with a degree of safety.
Education and help is offered by many experienced flyers here,,,,,It would be nice if liability is addressed more often and how to better protect yourself from a "what if" and when posting public videos, to be mindfull of the ones that put our hobby in a bad light.
I see on these forums, many new flyers wanting to fly FPV and I have also seen a resent spike in club membership enquiries of fellows trying to join, to get out of questionable flying areas,,,,,I have also read and listened to many that feel rc club guys are the worst critics and nothing but rule Nazis.....I can only hope some will understand that some of us have hundreds of hours and have spent thousands of dollars working and creating new, safe flying sites, even though you have no intention of ever being a part of these groups,,,essentially we are all on the same boat.
Sorry if you think this thread has been hijacked, it was not my intention

Re: Another DJI F550 Crash

Well said Max! In my experience and in my hands a multi rotor is a whole lot safer than an RC heli any day. Multi rotor crashes that I have seen video footage of all happened as a result of human error due to not paying attention and running into trees or buildings.

Re: Another DJI F550 Crash

I have never had a problem with my Naza equipped quad and failsafe. It comes home and lands every time.

I see too many people blathering on about "what if". Well, you can "what if" 'till the cows come home on any other form of RC an have just as catastrophic an outcome "IF"......

The key here is to make sure you hardware is in good condition, you inspect and check it regularly , and you are comfortable with and regularly test your failsafes. If you think about it for a second, you will find the the same precautions apply to all other forms of RC, be it jet turbines, RC combat, RC pylon racing, end everything else in the RC spectrum.

Re: Another DJI F550 Crash

If you program your multirotor controller properly there are another safety feature the Naza controller has and that is called "home lock". What home lock does is when you have found enough satellites you switch on home lock pull the elevator stick back and the craft comes back to you no matter which direction your multi rotor is turned. I have a quad but went to a hex copter because if I have a failure of one motor or prop on the quad a crash will happen, but with a hex if you lose one motor or prop you can still fly it home.

Re: Another DJI F550 Crash

My 550 with a Naza lite controller has fail safe when the radio signal is lost and you have locked into enough satellites, it will climb 50 feet up then turn around and return to home which is it's point of take off. I have tested this out by flying to the end of a field and shutting off my radio which means no control on my part at all so it does have a very good failsafe system. The only way these things can fly away is if it confuses another signal with my radio signal and continues to fly something that to my knowledge happened once around an industrial complex in California. The Naza controller also favours Futaba systems over Spektrum this I gather from all the postings I have read on the subject.

Re: Another DJI F550 Crash

I quit reading this thread when it went sideways and 'off topic' so to speak. That said though, after 40 years in the hobby, I find this is pretty cool technology...thanks for posting the videos....Ron

Redundancy mitigates some risk when flying under control and when you see pro's filming from an aerial platform, that is a way to help minimize risk when things go wrong,,,,
RTH and position hold are other ways to recover, but don't replace a working & tested failsafe,,IMO
True.. then again fly in proper places away from people and moving traffic and you should have less to worry about.
