Re: DHC-2 Beaver - Foamie Plans

Thank you bob_suruncle! I will hopefully be able to return the favor with some foam wing cores.

I came to visit last Friday (I think) with plane in hand to show you, but Bill had said you were out.

As for the Big Pink Beaver, yes I saw those plans. We were both developing our planes at the same time. His came out wayyy nicer though. I am really intrigued about his finishing method. What a fast and very detailed way to cover a plane!
the tail end of a spool of Nichrome wire is sitting on the counter at your local hobby shop waiting for you to build a bow for your hot wire cutter

Yes, they do have a tendency to get under your skin!

Anyway, back to the plans for the 48"... I think I will finally build my hot wire foam cutter as well. I really want this build to turn out nice... no wavy FFF.

He suggested making a larger 1/12 (48" WS) version... only 6" wider than the current one. He also had a few suggestions for cowls, etc.

I admit I am intrigued by the idea... if time permits, I may start modifying the plan to achieve just that. Even at 48" the build will easily come in under 16oz. The recommended motor can also be upped to a 3S lipo for extra power.
Funny how those darned beavers get under your skin.... I may just have to dust off some of my beaver projects and get back to work. You may be okay with the 2s lipo... I used to fly my portly 28oz modded beaver on a brushed 350 with a 2 s lipo on a 9070 3 blade prop.

It ain't much to look at it... I haven't had time to finish the details. But hey it does fly and was fun to build. Maybe you could offer some suggestions to improve it?

BTW, is this Dave from PJH? If so, I am in the store all the time... many of the parts for this plane come from there.
