Re: New project AMR 30cc stick

Made sense to me. (Should I be worried?) Thinking I might not need to do a ton of lightening with the 55 on the front and only two servos in the tail. Might finish everything before I cover the tail then check the balance and make up my mind. Got the CF installed in the bottom of the stab last night. Glad I did the bottom first as it didn't come out as nice as I'd like. Looks like more time on the sanding block Stab is extremely stiff though now so may not do the top at all. Went with the round tail and will post some new photos when I get them them hung on the fuse for the first time.

Re: New project AMR 30cc stick

No Steve - I haven't checked the CG yet but from some quick calcs, it looked like Caleb's was going to be a hint nose-heavy with the Mintor60 (very close in weight to the DLE55).

Because of that, instead of 2 standard elevator servos in the tail, we did 2 of the Savox 1251 servos for elevator (each about 1oz lighter than a standard sized servo) and also shoehorned a standard size servo in the tail for rudder. Overall we got all 3 servos back there and added about 1.5oz vs stock, which should counter the extra bit of nose-weight.

Hope that didn't confuse you!!... it sure confused me, LOL

Hey Trev. Did you have any issues getting your stick to balance? Got scale and calculator out and found I added about 100g to the tail but the engine is 300g heavier than the 36 I was going to put in. Based on that and about a 3:1 ratio front to rear around the CG I really shouldn't have any tail heavy issues.

A DLE 55 on a 30 sized plane??!

... add lots of CF - that is going to be a ROCKET!

Oh ya

A Carbon-Stick-55 with big surfaces and lots of cutty-cutty
.
.
I feel like stripping the Monokote off of Caleb's Stick and doing the same now, LOL!!

Keep us posted on progress!!

Re: New project AMR 30cc stick

Well after letting this plane sit around the shop for months I decided it was time it got finished. Another stick project convinced me that maybe a plane this size could use a bit more engine.....so out goes the 36 and in goes a DLE55. After that decision it was only a small leap to making the tail surfaces larger since you never know when it might need to hover. That's pretty much where it is at the moment. Couldn't decide which tail I liked better so stretched them both 3" to see. Still can't decide Thinking of doing some CF reinforcing and then getting out the forstener bits and doing a little lightening. All new territory for me so thought I'd post a few picture for input. Stab will probably get a little CF too for good measure.

Trevor you're a bad influence. If you're not careful I might learn something!

What glue did you find best for doing sheeting. Tail surfaces are like a jigsaw puzzle and I don't want all the seams to be hard to sand.
