Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites Dave, don't overlook the Trilllium grants when it comes to developing the field and related amenities. Also, engage your local MPP (might actually be interested in RC) in getting the grant paperwork dcone and greasing the skids on hte processing. I also have heard that the grants can be applied for on-line, so the massive paperwork may be greatly reduced in applying for one. |

Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites Well, Myles, it looks like the Belleville club have a new field lined up for 2014, about 3 Km west of where I live. (That will be just too convenient for me!!) It is on farm property owned by a couple of retired folk that is currently cropped by a friend of mine. (I ploughed the fields all around it last fall.) With luck they will be able to hold onto it for a while, and we (PERCFC) are actively looking for a new field and do have a couple of leads to explore. We have a meeting coming up next Wednesday, I'll email you the details so you can attend if you wish. |

Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites Here is an excerpt from an email I received in response to a query of mine as to timelines when we have to vacate our flying field on Rosseau Crossroad: The LunarLight project has recently concluded the Ministry of the Environment’s Application Completeness phase and is posted on the Environmental Registry Board, where the public has until April 7, 2013 to submit their comments to the Ministry directly. From there, the application undergoes the Ministry’s technical review phase, which should last 5-6 months. We then anticipate to start construction in Fall of 2013. Plenty of time to continue flying! Hope this helps! In a word; WHOO-HOOO! |

Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites Myles, it was out of the owners hands. They were told they could not get insurance coverage if they had model aircraft flying while it is an active flying field. They had to ask either us or the flying club to leave, and I am sure the flying club pays a tad more rent than we did! Besides, we could not fly when the cadets were flying their gliders, or when Canada's Worst Driver was taping, or when a car show was happening, or a fly-in breakfast was scheduled. We had to have spotter at all times and the scanner had to be monitored, and it goes on. I for one, don't need the hassle, as much as I enjoyed flying off the tarmack. |

Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites Yeah, this is what I have been hearing I'll be keeping an eye and ear open Dave. it's funny but I thought about the possibility of approaching our old site at the airport Just to see if they had a change of heart yet! Maybe do a little crying or something and prove to them there's nothing to worry about! I know............ beating a dead horse on that one........... |

Re: Belleville and Picton flying sites We have an alternate site available to us (PERCFC) down on Point Petre, but there are access difficulties and as you would expect, the winds down there can be killer. We have investigated a number of locations but come up dry so far. There are a couple of other locations being looked into, but nothing definitive yet. There is lots of land available, if you have heavy equipment to clear off the red cedar and buckthorn, but that takes bigger bucks than we have at our disposal, and to convince a farmer to let us use arable land at a price we can afford is unlikely, with grain prices being where they are. |
