EDF's are becoming nicer and nicer and gaining more power too! Power aka thrust )

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

Dear John,
Sorry, but I have to notice the MiG-25 is not the most successful prototype for scale. The original has a thin airfoil. Therefore the small scale jet with with such airfoil and geometrical proportions will fly as a jet brick.
The big model with a thick airfoil will fly as the fan-flay.
You will be compelled to select a airfoil and to change geometrical proportions.
About EDF.
I'm not a fan of long and crooked air labyrinths! This is a guaranteed loss of thrust. For electric aircraft it has crucial importance!

Several years ago I wanted to build the MiG-25, but changed his mind and built this.

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

Hi Serg,
I haven't gotten that far in the design yet, but the airfoil will be more suited to model aircraft. Because it will be a foam wing, having it thicker will help with it's overall strength and rigidity. Wing loading, well as light as possible is the best I can do at the moment. If I have to enlarge the wing to help out then that will be done.
The nozzles will be scale in size but the actual thrust tubes will be light weight Fiberglass and will be about 85% to 80% of the fan sweep area. I'm providing the ChangeSun 70 mm V12 EDF units with the kit. I haven't much experience with them and I want to play with the thrust tube diameter to get the best performance. Without a thrust tube, I am getting 930 watts out of one unit on a five cell setup.

I agree on the CF-101 VooDoo, never liked it's capability, but it always looked cool. Soon as I finish my Arrow! Great kit by the way, love it.

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

1.By the way, Dutkoski, what airfoil are you going to apply - thin or modernized? Thin airfoils of the original is a major drawback for the model!
2.What a wing loading?
3.Also, I do not like too big nozzles!...

Such?

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

Hey Alain,

I just checked my website, I totally forgot that the page for the foam EDF version did not upload the last time I updated, and since I've been down here in the sun, I have not checked it at all.

Anyway, send me an e-mail via the forum here and I'll give you the prices for the three options.

Well, back to the pool..... .

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

No, twin 70's is in almost everyone's budget. I will have two 90 mm twins soon enough and they will be composite beasts. And they won't be cheap.....

Re: Mig-25 Foxbat

John,

By looking at the size comparison between the Arrow and Mig 25, Id say Mig will be a winner, if you make it, I'll buy one of ur kits.

How about building a twin 90mm version, l bet that will be a rocket and one he'll of a model.
