Re: Balsarite?? I second the drywall spackle. When you pick up the tube, you'd swear there was nothing in it. Dries fairly fast too. And cheap, I like cheap. |

Re: Balsarite?? I buy light weight drywall spackle at our local Home hardware for filler. Water base contact cement is what I use to iron fabric on. It's heat activated after its dry. |

Re: Balsarite?? Thanks guys...think it was the Balsarite company that made the microballoon filler..sorry for the confusion...something that can fill large balsa cracks and be sandable, and you all gave me a good pile of selections....great!! Near the tail area looking for a product that can fill and be light as possible. Using Solartex fabric.. |

Re: Balsarite?? For sealing fabric weave, I used Minwax -Polycrilic. It's waterbased, and is a bit thinner than the mod-podge. I'm sure it would seal up balsa too. |

Re: Balsarite?? Many fillers avail, you can get micro balloons, not only at RC places, but any fibreglass company. Mixed with epoxy, very light, easy to work with, sets fast, and can be sanded. For general filling, lepage's white wood filler, avail at Canadian Tire, cheap, and pretty much identical to the old RC wood fillers. I only use glaze and spot putty on glass, and only for really minor touch ups, pinholes, etc. It's got little strength, and will crack or separate if it's used in any thickness. Hope that helps a bit. |

Re: Balsarite?? Quote:
Can you elaborate a bit on the finishing issue 'cause my use of Balsarite has been as a heat activated adhesive for covering not having their own adhesive? If this is the intended use, Sig Stix-It is "the same" solvent-based product but you may have the same problems getting it as Balsarite because of problems with shipments of 'hazardous'/high volatile products. I've read of a British, model plane marketed product, Balsa-loc, which is water-based. But people on the forums say Mod-Podge, a craft adhesive available at Michael's Crafts is "the same" and cheaper and yet others say some thinned white glues, especially Wellbond, work in the same manner as a covering adhesive. If you are looking for a pore filler for balsa, look up some control line forums as many in that group who did not use a covering on some of their finely finished models, concocted various 'sanding sealers' to create an ultra smooth wood surface prior to painting. But if you are going to apply any kind of covering why bother with such a step because of the added weight. good luck Michael thanks Michael |

Re: Balsarite?? Isn't balsa rite used to help iron on coverings stick. As fillers go I use automotive spot glazing putty. http://3mcollision.com/products/fill...red-12001.html |
